Filmstaden was a film studio situated in Råsunda, Solna Municipality in Stockholm, Sweden. History Filmstaden was once one of the most modern film studios in Europe. It was built in 1919–1920 on the basis of designs by Swedish architect Ebbe Crone (1885-1960). It was owned and operated by SF Studios (''Svensk Filmindustri''), the main Swedish film producer at the time. Some 400 movies have been created at Filmstaden. The first movie to be filmed at Filmstaden was ''The Phantom Carriage'' (''Körkarlen''. 1921) by director Victor Sjöström. Practically all Swedish actors and film directors of the 20th century had some connection with Filmstaden. In 1969, Svensk Filmindustri left Filmstaden and the studios were used by small film producers, production of television dramas and the ''Riksteatern'' Theatre. RÃ¥sunda (district)
Råsunda is a district in Solna Municipality, and a suburb in the Stockholm metropolitan area with around 17 500 inhabitants. The movie industry set up in the area Filmstaden, formerly an ostrich farm, in 1919-1969 (nowadays the area has homes, officeshttps://www.solna.se/download/18.d878336172a235b6c417193/1592394620116/Solna%20stads%20Översiktsplan%202030.pdf ) in western Råsunda. Solna Municipality
Solna Municipality ( sv, Solna kommun or , ) is a municipality in Stockholm County in Sweden, located just north of Stockholm City Centre. Its seat is located in the town of Solna, which is a part of the Stockholm urban area. Solna is one of the richest municipalities in Sweden. The municipality is a part of Metropolitan Stockholm. None of the area is considered rural, which is unusual for Swedish municipalities, which normally are of mixed rural/urban character. Solna is the third smallest municipality in Sweden in terms of area. The Stockholm urban area ( sv, Stockholms tätort) is the largest and most populous of the statistical localities or urban areas in Sweden. It has no administrative function of its own, but constitutes a continuous built-up area, which extends into 11 municipalities in Stockholm County. It contains the municipal seats of 10 of those. SF Studios is a Swedish film and television production and distribution company (both Swedish and international) with headquarters in Stockholm and local offices in Oslo, Copenhagen, Helsinki and London. The studio is owned by Nordic media conglomerate, the Bonnier Group. The Phantom Carriage
''The Phantom Carriage'' ( sv, Körkarlen, literally "The Wagoner") is a 1921 Swedish silent film directed by and starring Victor Sjöström, based on the 1912 novel '' Thy Soul Shall Bear Witness!'' (''Körkarlen'') by Swedish author Selma Lagerlöf. In the film, Sjöström plays a drunkard named David Holm who, on the night of New Year's Eve, is compelled by the ghostly driver of Death's carriage to reflect on his past mistakes. Victor Sjöström
Victor David Sjöström (; 20 September 1879 – 3 January 1960), also known in the United States as Victor Seastrom, was a pioneering Swedish film director, screenwriter, and actor. He began his career in Sweden, before moving to Hollywood in 1924. Sjöström worked primarily in the silent era; his best known films include ''The Phantom Carriage'' (1921), ''He Who Gets Slapped'' (1924), and '' The Wind'' (1928). Sjöström was Sweden's most prominent director in the "Golden Age of Silent Film" in Europe. Later in life, he played the leading role in Ingmar Bergman's '' Wild Strawberries'' (1957). ''The Emigrants'' ( sv, Utvandrarna) is a 1971 Swedish film directed and co-written by Jan Troell and starring Max von Sydow, Liv Ullmann, Eddie Axberg, Allan Edwall, Monica Zetterlund, and Pierre Lindstedt. It and its 1972 sequel, ''The New Land'' (''Nybyggarna''), which were produced concurrently, are based on Vilhelm Moberg's ''The Emigrants'', a series of novels about poor Swedes who emigrate from Småland, Sweden, in the mid-19th century and make their home in Minnesota. This film adapts the first two of the four novels ('' The Emigrants'' (1949) and ''Unto a Good Land'' (1952)), which depict the hardships the emigrants experience in Sweden and on their journey to America. Jan Troell
Jan Gustaf Troell (born 23 July 1931) is a Swedish writer-director, and cinematographer. His realistic films, with a lyrical photography in which nature is prominent, have placed him in the first rank of modern Swedish film directors along with Ingmar Bergman and Bo Widerberg. Life and career Troell was born in Limhamn outside Malmö, Sweden. For several years, he worked as an elementary-school teacher but started to make short films in the sixties. In 1965 he co-produced the film ''4x4'' and it was entered into the 4th Moscow International Film Festival. He became director of photography for Widerberg but soon made a debut with his own first feature, '' Here's Your Life'' (''Här har du ditt liv'', 1966), about a working class boy in Sweden, set in the beginning of the 20th century.
