Filmfare Awards South
Filmfare Awards South is the South Indian segment of the annual Filmfare Awards, presented by the Filmfare magazine of The Times Group to honour both artistic and technical excellence of professionals in the Indian film industry encompassing four languages, namely, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. They were introduced in 1954, around the films released in 1952-53 and Filmfare Awards initially recognizing the Hindi film industry. In 1964 awards were extended in Tamil, Telugu, Bengali and Marathi, around the films released in 1963. The inclusion of the Malayalam cinema in the awards came in 1967 while Kannada cinema was recognized in 1970. Each industry is given its own set of creative awards in annual ceremonies that have predominantly been held in Hyderabad and Chennai. ''Jackie'' is a 2010 Indian Kannada-language action film directed by Soori and stars Puneeth Rajkumar and Bhavana. It was released in Kannada on 14 October 2010 to a critical acclaim and was adjudged the Best Film of 2010 at the South Filmfare Awards. The Telugu dubbed version was released on 6 May 2011Shivkamal, Aravind G. (25 January 2011Jackie in Telugu, Malayalam. Southscope.in. Retrieved on 2014-03-08. The film is noted for its technical prowess, witty dialogues and lyrics, combined with an art that has become a trademark of Soori's rustic feel cinema. ''Bhajarangi'' is a 2013 Indian Kannada-language fantasy action film starring Shiva Rajkumar and Aindrita Ray. Directed by choreographer-turned-director Harsha, the film was released on 12 December 2013 and received positive response from critics. ''Bhajarangi'' was the highest-grossing Kannada film of 2013. The film was declared a blockbuster at the box office. Plot The story takes place in a hamlet called Ramadurga. A tantrik terrorises the villagers bylooting their valuables, raping women and killing them. Jeeva comes to Ramadurga to discover his "Janma rahasya" (mystery of his birth).
