Filibusters Camp
Filibuster Camp is the historic locale of a camp along the Gila River route of the Southern Emigrant Trail in Yuma County, Arizona, named in memory of a failed filibuster expedition to Sonora that began there in 1856. History Filibuster Camp Filibuster Camp acquired the name because it was the site from which Henry A. Crabb led an 1856 expedition into Sonora, Mexico, to help put Ignacio Pesqueira into power. At the time Crabb was suspected of trying to conquer Sonora like the filibuster William Walker had done only a few years prior. Crabb's venture resulted in the death of all but one or two of the expedition and the beheading of Crabb. Its former site is located just north of Old Highway 80 on the east side of S Ave 34 East, east of Wellton, Arizona on Wellton Mesa, Yuma County, Arizona. Wellton, Arizona
Wellton is a town in Yuma County, Arizona, United States. According to the 2010 census, the population of the town is 2,882. It is part of the Yuma Metropolitan Statistical Area. Geography Wellton is located at (32.671436, -114.140972). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all land. Wellton is located along Interstate 8 and the former route of U.S. Route 80. It is a junction on the Union Pacific Railroad (formerly Southern Pacific), where the lines to Phoenix and Maricopa diverge. History Of Arizona

Butterfield Overland Mail In New Mexico Territory
The Butterfield Overland Mail was a transport and mail delivery system that employed stagecoaches that travelled on a specific route between St. Louis, Missouri and San Francisco, California and which passed through the New Mexico Territory. It was created by the United States Congress on March 3, 1857, and operated until March 30, 1861. The route that was operated extended from where the ferry across the Colorado River to Fort Yuma Station, California was located, through New Mexico Territory via, Tucson to the Rio Grande and Mesilla, New Mexico then south to Franklin, Texas, midpoint on the route. The New Mexico Territory mail route was divided into two divisions each under a superintendent. Tucson was the headquarters of the 3rd Division of the Butterfield Overland Mail Company. Dome, Arizona
Dome ( ood, Hi:lo) is a ghost town located in Yuma County, in southwestern Arizona, United States. It is located in the Dome Valley south of the Gila River. Originally Swiveler's Station, east of Fort Yuma on the Butterfield Overland Mail route, a post office was established here in 1858. It was first under the name of Gila City, the nearby boomtown west of Swiveler's, but the post office closed July 14, 1863, after most of the town was swept away in the Great Flood of 1862, and then abandoned for the La Paz gold rush along the Colorado River. After the railroad passed by the site and an attempt at large scale mining of the placers began, a new post office was established as Dome in 1892 but soon closed when the attempt failed.
