Fiji At The 1974 British Commonwealth Games
Fiji competed for the eighth time at the 1974 British Commonwealth Games in Christchurch, New Zealand. A team of thirty-six athletes (27 men and 9 women) and ten officials (9 men and 1 woman) was sent to the 1974 Games. Fijian competitors competed in athletics (10 men & 5 women), boxing (8 men), lawn bowls (7 men), swimming (1 man & 4 women), and weightlifting (1 man).''Official History of the Xth British Commonwealth Games'' edited by A. Flag Of Fiji
The national flag of Fiji ( Fijian: ''kuila ni Viti'') was adopted on 10 October 1970. The state arms have been slightly modified but the flag has remained the same as during Fiji's colonial period. It is a defaced cyan "Blue Ensign" (the actual Blue Ensign version of the flag is the Government ensign), with the shield from the national coat of arms. It has remained unchanged since Fiji was declared a republic in 1987, despite calls from some politicians for changes. 1974 British Commonwealth Games
The 1974 British Commonwealth Games ( mi, 1974 Taumāhekeheke Commonwealth) were held in Christchurch, New Zealand from 24 January to 2 February 1974. The bid vote was held in Edinburgh at the 1970 British Commonwealth Games. The Games were officially named "the friendly games". There were 1,276 competitors and 372 officials, according to the official history, and public attendance was excellent. The main venue was the Queen Elizabeth II Park, QEII Park, purpose-built for this event. The Athletics Stadium and fully covered Olympic standard pool, diving tank, and practice pools were all on the one site. Rebecca Perrott
Rebecca Vivian Mary Perrott (born 20 June 1961) is a swimmer from New Zealand, who won the gold medal in the women's 200 metres freestyle at the 1978 Commonwealth Games. She was fourth in the women's 400m freestyle at the 1976 Summer Olympics. In the 1980 New Year Honours, Perrott was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire, for services to swimming. She was considered a possible medallist for the 1980 Summer Olympics but was denied the opportunity due to the boycott by the majority of New Zealand Olympic sports associations. At 15 she was the youngest person to represent New Zealand at the Olympics. 1958 British Empire And Commonwealth Games
The 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games (Welsh: Gemau Ymerodraeth Prydain a'r Gymanwlad 1958) were held in Cardiff, Wales, from 18–26 July 1958. Thirty-five nations sent a total of 1,130 athletes and 228 officials to the Cardiff Games and 23 countries and dependencies won medals, including, for the first time, Singapore, Ghana, Kenya and the Isle of Man.
