The Fiji Women's Pro 2016 was an event of the Association of Surfing Professionals for 2016 ASP World Tour. This event was held from 29 May to 3 June at Namotu, ( Tavarua, Fiji) and opposed by 18 surfers. The tournament was won by Johanne Defay (FRA), who beat Carissa Moore Carissa Kainani Moore (born August 27, 1992) is a Hawaiian American Olympian, world champion surfer and activist. Namotu
Namotu Island is one of the few hundreds of islands that make up the country of Fiji. It is in the southernmost part of the chain of islands called the Mamanuca Islands, which are just west of Nadi. Namotu is located just off the western coast of the main island of Fiji known as Viti Levu. Namotu Island Resort, a haven for tourists, lies about five nautical miles west of Viti Levu. Tyler Wright (surfer)
Tyler Wright (born 31 March 1994) is an Australian professional surfer on the WSL World Tour. She is a consecutive WSL Women's World Champion (2016, 2017). Early life Wright, who is from a close-knit surfing family, grew up at Culburra Beach, a surf spot about two hours south of Sydney near Nowra. Her four siblings are Owen, Kirby, Mikey, and Tim. The Fiji Pro was an event on the WSL Championship Tour. The event was held at Namotu in Tavarua, Fiji, and ran from 1999 to 2008, and then was resurrected in 2012. The competition was cancelled in 2018 due to lack of a sponsor. Naming Since the birth of this competition it had different names. From 2013 to 2016 it was sponsored by Volcom. Stephanie Gilmore
Stephanie Louise Gilmore (29 January 1988) is an Australian professional surfer and eight-time world champion on the Women's WSL World Tour (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2018, 2022). Career Gilmore's life as a surfer began at age 9 when she stood on a bodyboard. By age 17 she was entering world tour events as a wild card competitor, which paid off with a victory at the 2005 Roxy Pro Gold Coast. In her next season she won another wild card event, the 2006 Havaianas Beachley Classic. Gilmore's success on the WQS (World Qualifying Series) tour qualified her for the 2007 Women's ASP World Tour and she did not disappoint. Sage Erickson (born December 28, 1990) is an American professional surfer born in Ojai, California, United States. Career At the age of nine, Erickson moved to the Island of Oahu, Hawaii. When she was 11, at Sunset Beach with her family, she picked up a board and paddled out. She got her first wave all the way in. After that, she began surfing everyday. Coco Malia Camille Hapaikekoa Ho (born April 28, 1991) is a professional Hawaiian surfer born in Honolulu, Hawaii. She began surfing at 7 years old, following in the footsteps of her family. Early years At age 7, Coco Ho began following in the footsteps of her surfer family. Coco's father, Michael Ho, was a professional surfer (World Cup and 1982 Pipe Masters) as well as her uncle, Derek Ho (1993 World Champion). Bronte Macaulay
Bronte Macaulay (born 9 January 1994) is an Australian professional surfer. She competes in the World Surf League. Life Macaulay learned to surf along the coast of Western Australia when she was 9 years old. Her father, Dave Macaulay, who was an icon professional surfer in the 80's and 90's, taught surfing to Macaulay and her older twin sisters. Career Macaulay was one spot short of qualifying for the Championship Tour in 2016 but was able to take the spot of Lakey Peterson after she was unable to continue after breaking her ankle. This gave her six shots against some of the world's top female surfers, and she beat Sally Fitzgibbons at Snapper, and Stephanie Gilmore and Johanne Defay at home in Margaret River. Courtney Conlogue
Courtney Conlogue (born August 25, 1992) is an American professional surfer. She was born in Santa Ana, California. Courtney learned to surf at the age of 4. In 2004 when she was 11, Conlogue was the youngest athlete to be selected to the USA Junior Surf Team. She went on to achieve 11th place in the 2005 ISA World Junior Surfing Championships. By the time she was 14, she had won a surfing gold medal as a member of the U.S. Team in the X Games. When she was 17 she won the biggest competition in the US at the Hurley U.S. Open of Surfing, held at her home break in Huntington Beach, California. Conlogue suffered a major ankle injury while freesurfing before her heat at the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach in Australia. She had to withdraw from the contest as well as the Rio Pro.
