Figure skating at the 2023 Winter World University Games was held on January 13–15 at the Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid, New York, United States. Medals were awarded in men's singles, women's singles and ice dance. Regulations Skaters who were born between 1 January 1997 and 31 December 2005 are eligible to compete at the Winter Universiade if they are registered as proceeding towards a degree or diploma at a university or similar institute, or obtained their academic degree or diploma in the year preceding the event. In pairs and ice dance, only one partner must be a citizen of the country for which they are competing. Each nation may send a maximum of three entries per discipline. Herb Brooks Arena
The Herb Brooks Arena is a multi-purpose arena in Lake Placid, New York. This surface, along with the USA Rink, was built for the 1980 Winter Olympics. About The arena hosted various events during the 1980 Winter Olympics, most famously the ice hockey tournament that saw the United States' 4–3 victory over the Soviet Union, the game commonly referred to as the Miracle on Ice. In 2005, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the American victory, the arena was named after the late Herb Brooks, who coached the American team during the 1980 Olympics. Other events the arena hosted during the 1980 games include figure skating events and the closing ceremony. The arena has been used several times for college hockey championships in the United States. With his current skating partner, Lorraine McNamara, he is the 2023 World University Games silver medalist and 2022 CS U.S. Classic bronze medalist. Petr Kotlařík (born 1 November 1998) is a Czech figure skater. He is the 2023 Czech national Champion. He has competed in the final segment at two ISU Championships. Personal life Petr Kotlařík was born on 1 November 1998 in Jihlava and grew up in Brno, Czech Republic. Career Early years Kotlařík began learning to skate in 2003. He has trained in both singles and pairs. He teamed up with Natálie Kratěnová around 2011 and skated with her for several years. 2013 to 2015 Kotlařík debuted on the Junior Grand Prix (JGP) series in October 2013, coached by Eva Horklová and Lucie Kratěnová in Brno and Prague. She is a two-time Sofia Trophy champion (2019, 2020), the 2019 Denkova-Staviski Cup champion, the 2018 Crystal Skate of Romania champion, and a five-time Bulgarian national champion (2016, 2018–2020, 2022). Luc Maierhofer (born 24 May 2002) is an Austrian figure skater. He is the 2019 Golden Bear of Zagreb silver medalist and the 2022 Austrian national champion.
