Figure Skating At The 1932 Winter Olympics – Ladies' Singles
The ladies' individual skating event was held as part of the figure skating at the 1932 Winter Olympics. It was the fifth appearance of the event, which had previously been held twice at the Summer Olympics in 1908 and 1920 as well as at the Winter Games in 1924 and 1928. The competition was held on Tuesday 9 February and on Wednesday 10 February 1932. Fifteen figure skaters from seven nations competed. Results Sonja Henie successfully defended her 1928 title with Austrian Fritzi Burger finishing in second place again. Herb Brooks Arena
The Herb Brooks Arena is a multi-purpose arena in Lake Placid, New York. This surface, along with the USA Rink, was built for the 1980 Winter Olympics. About The arena hosted various events during the 1980 Winter Olympics, most famously the ice hockey tournament that saw the United States' 4–3 victory over the Soviet Union, the game commonly referred to as the Miracle on Ice. In 2005, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the American victory, the arena was named after the late Herb Brooks, who coached the American team during the 1980 Olympics. Other events the arena hosted during the 1980 games include figure skating events and the closing ceremony. The arena has been used several times for college hockey championships in the United States. Figure skating at the 1932 Winter Olympics took place at the Olympic Center Arena in Lake Placid, New York. Three figure skating events were contested: men's singles, ladies' singles, and pair skating. The competitions were held from Monday, 8 February to Friday, 12 February 1932. Walter Jakobsson
Walter Andreas Jakobsson (6 February 1882 – 10 June 1957) was a Finnish figure skater, and the oldest figure skating Olympic champion (at age 38). As a single skater, he won the Finnish national championship in 1910 and 1911. In 1910, he partnered with German figure skater Ludowika Eilers. As pairs skaters, they won the World Championship in 1911, 1914, and 1923, and the Olympic gold in 1920. They finished second at the 1924 Olympics and fifth in 1928. Jakobsson studied engineering in Berlin, where he met Eilers in 1907. They married in 1911, and in 1916 moved to Helsinki, where Jakobsson got a job of the technical director of Kone OY (now Konecranes), a leading manufacturers of cranes. He held that post until retiring in 1947. Yngvar Bryn
Yngvar Bryn (17 December 1881 – 30 April 1947) was a Norwegian track and field athlete and pairs figure skater who competed in the 1900 Summer Olympics in Paris, France, and in the 1920 Summer Olympics held in Antwerp, Belgium. At just aged 18 years old, Bryn won to silver medals at the 1899 Norwegian Athletic Championships in the 100 metres and 500 metre races, in 1901 and 1902 he became the Norwegian Champion in the 500 metres, he also became the 100 metres Norwegian record holder in 1902 when he recorded at time of 11.1 seconds. In 1900 he participated in the 200 metres competition and in the 400 metres competition. In both events he was eliminated in the first round. As a track and field athlete Bryn was representing IK Tjalve.
