Fighting Layer
is a 3D fighting game developed by Arika and published by Namco. It was released exclusively in Japan in December 1998 and has never been released overseas or ported to any home consoles. A spiritual sequel, ''Fighting EX Layer'', was released in 2018. Gameplay The gameplay system is similar to that of the ''Street Fighter EX'' series (also developed by Arika), such as canceling supers into other supers, and universal guard-break attacks. Unlike in the Street Fighter EX series, fighters can now dash forward or backward by tapping the directions twice and fighters can now also side step with a specific button combination. This game also introduces two new mechanics. One where players can perform safe falls to keep from hitting the ground and the other making their fighter dodge and charge up their super gauge to its maximum. Arika
is a Japanese video game developer and publisher. It was formed in 1995 by former Capcom employees, originally as ARMtech K.K, later named Arika. The name of the company is the reverse of the name of the company's founder, Akira Nishitani, who along with Akira Yasuda, created ''Street Fighter II''. Arika's first game was ''Street Fighter EX''. It was successful and was followed up with two updates (''Street Fighter EX +'' and ''EX + α''), and it's two sequels ''Street Fighter EX2'' and ''Street Fighter EX3''. In 2018, they released a spiritual successor to both ''Street Fighter EX'' and ''Fighting Layer'' (published by Namco), titled ''Fighting EX Layer''. is a 2D head-to-head fighting game with 3D graphics, originally released as a coin-operated arcade game for the Sony ZN hardware in 1996. It is a spin-off of the ''Street Fighter'' series co-produced by Capcom with Arika and was the first game in the series to feature 3D polygon graphics. It was followed by an updated arcade version titled ''Street Fighter EX Plus'', as well as a PlayStation-exclusive home console version titled ''Street Fighter EX Plus α'', both released in 1997. A Nintendo 64 version was also announced for release in 1997, but later cancelled. Gameplay The ''Street Fighter EX'' fighting system uses fighting systems from the ''Street Fighter II'' and ''Street Fighter Alpha'' series, but also has some original ones. Fighting Games
A fighting game, also known as a versus fighting game, is a genre of video game that involves combat between two or more players. Fighting game combat often features mechanics such as blocking, grappling, counter-attacking, and chaining attacks together into " combos". Characters generally engage in battle using hand-to-hand combat—often some form of martial arts. The fighting game genre is related to, but distinct from, the beat 'em up genre, which pits large numbers of computer-controlled enemies against one or more player characters.
