Eugene Figg
Eugene C. Figg (August 4, 1936 – March 20, 2002) was an American structural engineer who made numerous contributions to the field of structural engineering, especially in the design of the cable-stayed bridge and the use of the segmental concrete construction method. Life Figg was born August 4, 1936 in Charleston, South Carolina. He received a civil engineering degree as a structural engineer from The Citadel in Charleston in 1958. During his career, he brought the use of the segmental method for spanning large gaps to the United States with the assistance of his Paris-based partner, Jean M. Muller. His affiliation with Muller, begun at Figg and Muller Engineers (founded in 1978), allowed him to gain valuable insight into the application of pre-cast segmental bridge construction methods to the domestic market. George Figg
George Figg (13 June 1824 – 20 July 1888) was an English cricketer. Figg was a right-handed batsman who bowls right-arm roundarm medium. He was born at Horsham, Sussex. Figg made a single first-class appearance for Middlesex against Surrey at Lord's in 1850. Figg failed to score any runs or take any wickets during the match. Fifteen years later, Figg made a second first-class appearance, this time for Sussex against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge. He made nine further first-class appearances for Sussex, the last of which came against Kent in 1866. In his ten first-class appearances for the county, he took 38 wickets at an average of 18.47, with best figures of 6/42. James Figg
James Figg (before 1700 – 8 December 1734; also spelt James Fig) was an English prizefighter and instructor in historical European martial arts. While Figg primarily fought with weapons including short swords, quarterstaffs, and cudgels, he also played an important role in boxing's development. In 1719, he opened a London fighting venue that could seat more than 1,000 spectators and was one of the first of its kind. In 1725, he organized and promoted modern history's first international boxing match at his amphitheatre. He claimed to have won more than 200 matches during his career, and was posthumously considered to be the first boxing champion. Little is known about Figg's early life, except that he came to London from Thame, Oxfordshire. In London, Figg gained a reputation as a skilled fighter and set up a business training students in combat with weapons and fists.
