__NOTOC__ The Fieseler Fi 168 was a projected German ground attack aircraft designed in 1938 by Frederik Kassel, who created the aircraft after a request from the '' Technisches Amt'' (Technical Department) of the RLM ''Reichsluftfahrtministerium'' - (German aviation ministry). The two-engine aircraft was a strut-braced high-wing monoplane with two tail-booms and a narrow fuselage pod carried by struts under the centre-section, and was designed to operate in areas featuring rough terrain, and boasted two rigidly mounted forward-facing machine guns. The former development director Erich Bachem Erich Bachem (12 August 1906, in Mülheim an der Ruhr – 25 March 1960) was a German engineer. The Gerhard Fieseler Werke (GFW) in Kassel was a German aircraft manufacturer of the 1930s and 1940s. The company is remembered mostly for its military aircraft built for the Luftwaffe during the Second World War. History The firm was founded on April 1, 1930 as Fieseler Flugzeugbau Kassel by World War I flying ace and aerobatic champion Gerhard Fieseler. Fieseler had been a manager for the Raab-Katzenstein, but when this company went bankrupt, Fieseler bought a sailplane factory in Kassel and quickly turned it to building sports planes. At the same time, Fieseler still custom-built sailplanes for some of Germany's most prominent designers and pilots, including Wolf Hirth's "Musterle" and Robert Kronfeld's "Wien" and "Austria" (for many years the largest sailplane ever built). Erich Bachem (12 August 1906, in Mülheim an der Ruhr – 25 March 1960) was a German engineer. In the 1930s Erich Bachem designed the ''Aero-Sport'' camping trailer (vehicle), trailer built from plywood by the Glider aircraft, glider company Wolf Hirth in Kirchheim unter Teck. Until 1942 Bachem served as technical director for the aircraft manufacturer Fieseler. In February 1942 he founded Bachem-Werke GmbH, a supplier of spare parts for the aircraft industry, in Bad Waldsee, Waldsee, Baden-Württemberg. In 1944, he designed for the Schutzstaffel, SS the vertical take-off manned rocket plane Bachem Ba 349 ''Natter''. The only manned test flight on 1 March 1945 ended with pilot Lothar Sieber being killed. In 1947/48 Erich Bachem left Germany through Denmark and Sweden in order to settle in Argentina.
