There were twelve national teams competing in the women's Olympic field hockey tournament at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Sixteen players were officially enrolled in each squad. Two reserve players could also be nominated to be available should a player enrolled in the official squad become injured during the tournament. The women's field hockey tournament at the 2016 Summer Olympics was the tenth edition of the Field hockey at the Summer Olympics, field hockey event for women at the Summer Olympics. It took place over a fourteen-day period beginning on 6 August, and culminating with the medal finals on 19 August. All games were played at the Olympic Hockey Centre (Rio de Janeiro), Olympic Hockey Centre in Deodoro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
