Field Hockey At The 2016 Summer Olympics – Men's Tournament
The men's field hockey tournament at the 2016 Summer Olympics was the 23rd edition of the field hockey event for men at the Summer Olympics. It took place over a thirteen-day period beginning on 6 August, and culminated with the medal finals on 18 August. All games were played at the Olympic Hockey Centre in Deodoro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Argentina won the gold medal for the first time after defeating Belgium 4–2 in the final. Defending champions Germany won the bronze medal by defeating the Netherlands 4–3 on a penalty shoot-out after a 1–1 draw. The medals for the tournament were presented by Rene Fasel, Switzerland; Pierre-Olivier Beckers-Vieujant, Belgium; and Gerardo Werthein, Argentina; members of the International Olympic Committee, and the gifts were presented by Coco Budeisky and Marc Coudron, executive board members of the International Hockey Federation and Leandro Negre, president of the International Hockey Federation. 2014–15 Men's FIH Hockey World League Semifinals
The 2014–15 Men's FIH Hockey World League Semifinals took place in June and July 2015. A total of 20 teams competing in 2 events took part in this round of the tournament playing for 7 berths in the Final, played between 5–13 December 2015 in Raipur, India. This round also served as a qualifier for the 2016 Summer Olympics as the 6 highest placed teams apart from the host nation and the five continental champions qualify. United States Men's National Field Hockey Team
The United States men's national field hockey team represents the United States in the international field hockey competitions. The governing body is the United States Field Hockey Association (USFHA), which is a US Olympic Committee organization. The team won Bronze at the 1932 Summer Olympics, and has had success in the Pan American Games and Pan American Cup. Field hockey is not a major sport at college level in the United States, so the men's team does not have as much experience as most other international teams that have professional players. The sport is largely thought of as a women's game in the United States; field hockey has historically been used as a “Title IX” sport to offset the numerous men who play college football, and as such, colleges have typically only sponsored women's field hockey teams. Field Hockey At The 2015 Pan American Games – Men's Tournament
The men's field hockey tournament at the 2015 Pan American Games was held in Toronto, Canada at the Pan Am / Parapan Am Fields from July 14 to 25. For these Games, the men competed in an 8-team tournament. The teams were grouped into two pools of four teams each for a round-robin preliminary round. All teams will advance to an eight team single elimination bracket. Argentina were the defending champions from the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, defeating Canada, 3–1 in the final. The winner of this tournament, if not already qualified, qualified for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Qualification A total of eight men's teams qualified to compete at the games. The teams of the member nations of International Hockey Federation (FIH), field hockey's world governing body, are ranked based on their game results. The rankings were introduced in October 2003.
