Field Hockey At The 1956 Summer Olympics
The men's field hockey tournament at the 1956 Summer Olympics was the eighth edition of the field hockey event for men at the Summer Olympics. It was contested from 23 November to 6 December, with twelve participating teams. Only men competed in field hockey at these Games. India won the gold medal for the sixth successive Games, not allowing a single goal against in the entire tournament. Pakistan won the silver medal, and Germany won the bronze. The Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), also known locally as "The 'G", is an Australian sports stadium located in Yarra Park, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, Victoria. Chaudhry Ghulam Rasool
Chaudhry Ghulam Rasul Kamboh(1 May 1931 – 24 December 1991) was an educationist of Pakistan as well as a field hockey Olympic player. He was originally from Faisalabad District but later settled in Lahore. Rasool was an integral part of the Pakistani field hockey team from 1956 through 1963. Education and career Chaudhry Ghulam Rasool obtained his MSc degree in Agriculture from University of Agriculture (Faisalabad). He began his teaching career as a lecturer at Aitchison College, Lahore, but soon joined Rehabilitation Department where he worked as Deputy Settlement Commissioner. Later, he received his master's degree from Kansas State University and completed a PhD degree within three years at the University of Wisconsin, returning to Pakistan to join as Principal of Aitchison College, Lahore. Munir Dar (field Hockey)
Munir Ahmed Dar (28 March 1935 – 1 June 2011) was a Pakistani field hockey player who played as a fullback. He was a member of the Pakistan team that won gold at the 1960 Rome Olympics and silver the 1956 Melbourne and 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games. He captained the side from 1965 to 1967. Early life Dar was born on 28 March 1935 in Amritsar, then a part of British India. Udham Singh (field Hockey)
Udham Singh Kular (4 August 1928 – 23 March 2000) was an Indian Hockey Player from Sansarpur, Jalandhar, Punjab, India. He played in 1952 Summer Olympics Helsinki, 1956 Summer Olympics Melbourne, 1960 Summer Olympics Rome and 1964 Summer Olympics Tokyo. He shares the distinction of being one of only two Indian players to win four Olympic medals, the other being Leslie Claudius. Randhir Singh Gentle
Randhir Singh Gentle (September 22, 1922 – September 25, 1981) was an Indian field hockey player and coach. He was a part of the Indian team that won three consecutive gold medals in the Summer Olympics, from 1948 to 1956. Gentle is one among only seven Indians to have won three gold medals at the Games. Career Gentle played for India at three Olympic Games, in London in 1948, in Helsinki in 1952 and in Melbourne in 1956. He captained the Indian team at the Melbourne Olympics, following the injury of captain Balbir Singh Sr. in the first game of the league phase against Afghanistan.
