Fiat Abarth 1000SP
The Fiat Abarth 1000SP is a Group 4 (racing), Group 4 and Group 6 (racing), Group 6 Sports car racing, sports racing car built by Abarth in 1966 and 1970. Development The car was built by engineer Mario Colucci, and based on the mechanics of the Fiat 600 extensively modified, to participate in the races reserved for Group 6 sports cars. For this reason, 50 road specimens were built to obtain homologation for racing. Overview The car uses a tubular steel frame chassis and a DOHC inline 4-cylinder engine; making 105 HP with a twin-shaft cylinder head, placed in a central position capable of pushing the car up to a maximum speed of . This engine was equipped with two Weber 40 DCOE carburetors, while the lubrication was a wet-sump with a separate oil filter. The gearbox was a five-speed manual. Abarth & C. S.p.A. () is an Italian racing and road car maker and performance division founded by Italo-Austrian Carlo Abarth in 1949. Abarth & C. S.p.A. is owned by Stellantis through its Italian subsidiary. Its logo is a shield with a stylized scorpion on a yellow and red background. History 1949: Abarth & C. Carlo Abarth was sporting director of the Cisitalia racing team starting in 1947. The following year, the manufacturer folded, and founder Piero Dusio flew to Argentina. Abarth, funded by Armando Scagliarini, took over Cisitalia's assets and on 31 March 1949, Abarth & C. was founded in Bologna. Carlo's astrological sign, Scorpio, was chosen as the company logo. From the Cisitalia liquidation, Abarth obtained five 204 sports cars (two complete Spiders and three unfinished), a D46 single-seater, and various spares.
