Fianarantsoa Province
Fianarantsoa Province is a former province of Madagascar. It has an area of 103,272 km2 and population of 3,366,291 (July 2001 estimate). Its capital was Fianarantsoa. The province along with the 5 other was abolished in 2007 in favour of creation of smaller regions to facilitate administration. Apart from the capital the major towns were Andohapatsakana, Alakamisy, Fianarantsoa and Fanjakana. The province was home to four major national parks: Ranomafana National Park, Midongy Du Sud, Isalo National Park, and Andringitra. It was frequently referred by its abbreviated form of "Fianar". Fianarantsoa means "Good education". Madagascar was divided into six "autonomous provinces" (''faritany mizakatena''): #Antananarivo Province # Antsiranana Province #Fianarantsoa Province #Mahajanga Province #Toamasina Province #Toliara Province The provinces were dissolved as a result of the new regional subdivision and the constitutional referendum of 2007. Vatovavy-Fitovinany
Fitovinany is a region located in southeast Madagascar. Its capital is Manakara. It is inhabited by the Antemoro people. It formerly belonged to the region Vatovavy-Fitovinany that was split on 16 June 2021 to become the regions Vatovavy and Fitovinany. The region extends along the southern part of the east coast of Madagascar. It is bordered by Vatovavy (North), Amoron'i Mania and Haute Matsiatra (West) and Atsimo-Atsinanana (South). Ihorombe is a region in Madagascar. It borders Haute Matsiatra region in north, Atsimo-Atsinanana in east, Anosy in south and Atsimo-Andrefana in west. Fianarantsoa is a city (commune urbaine) in south central Madagascar, and is the capital of Haute Matsiatra Region. History It was built in the early 19th century by the Merina as the administrative capital for the newly conquered Betsileo kingdoms. Fianarantsoa means "Good education" in Malagasy. It is a cultural and intellectual center for the whole island.
