Brisbane ( ) is the capital and most populous city of the Australian state of Queensland, and the third-most populous city in Australia and Oceania, with a population of approximately 2.6 million. Anywhere Theatre Festival (Brisbane)
Anywhere Festival is an annual Brisbane based festival for performance anywhere but traditional theatre spaces. The first anywhere-but-in-a-traditional-theatre concept was brought to Brisbane in 2011 by creative director Paul Osuch and his partner, Ally McTavish. Their theory is that we need to take traditional story-telling out of theatre buildings and back to where life really takes place, in the community. The festival – which holds performances anywhere but in a traditional theatre – began in 2011 with 4000 attendees and 31 productions. Soundwave (Australian Music Festival)
Soundwave was an annual music festival held in major cities around Australia, run and promoted by Soundwave Touring. The festival originated in Perth, Western Australia, and began travelling to the other Australian capital cities in 2007. It featured a number of international and Australian music acts from various genres, including rock, metal and punk. The festival has been headlined by Deftones, the Offspring, Incubus, Alice in Chains, Bloodhound Gang, Nine Inch Nails, Faith No More, Jimmy Eat World, Jane's Addiction, Soundgarden, Iron Maiden, Queens of the Stone Age, the Smashing Pumpkins, System of a Down, Slipknot, Green Day, Avenged Sevenfold, Linkin Park, Blink-182 and Metallica. Future Music Festival
Future Music Festival was an annual music festival featuring Australian and international artists held in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth in Australia and as of 2012 also Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. The festival was usually held in late February - early March and has been headlined by notable acts including The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers, New Order, The Stone Roses and most recently Drake. Several weeks after the 2015 edition of the festival, Mushroom Group announced their decision to scrap any future editions of the festival, however they offered hope for a new festival to take its place. Stereosonic was an annual electronic dance music festival held in Australia in November and early December. Stereosonic was held in Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Sydney, and Melbourne, attracting attendances of up to 200,000 patrons nationally featuring the biggest electronic artists in the world. Stereosonic was a collaboration of two major Australia promoters Totem Industries and Onelove Music Group. In 2010 Totem Industries and Onelove Music Group created Totem Onelove Group, Australia's leading electronic music companies. In 2013 Totem Onelove Group was acquired by U.S. based global electronic music company SFX Entertainment of New York. As of 2012, it was regarded as Australia's fastest growing music festival. Paniyiri Greek Festival
The Paniyiri Greek Festival is usually held in May each year in Musgrave Park, Brisbane, Australia. In 2022 the May dates have been changed to October 15-16 due to the wet weather. The festival was started in 1976, and is the longest running cultural festival in Queensland, and the longest running Greek festival in Australia. It was initiated by Father Gregory Sakellariou, with the aim of bringing the Greek community together and sharing their culture with the people of Brisbane. The festival is famous for its food, music and Hellenic dancing. Crowds of up to 60,000 people flock to the two-day festivities, and over a thousand volunteers help in the running of Queensland's largest festival. In 2009 as part of the Q150 celebrations, the Paniyiri Greek Festival was announced as one of the Q150 Icons of Queensland for its role as an "event and festival". The MOSAIC Multicultural Festival is an annual festival held in the Roma Street Parkland, coordinated by Multicultural Australia, with assistance from the Queensland Government, Brisbane City Council, and local sponsors. The festival includes performances, food stalls, and information booths from a range of groups representing various cultural communities residing in the Brisbane area.
