The Festival della Canzone Napoletana ("Festival of Neapolitan Song"), commonly known as the Festival di Napoli, is a Neapolitan song contest. The first edition was held in 1952 and the last in 2004. From 1952 to 1970 the show was broadcast on RAI and from 1998 to 2004, in a differently spirited version, by Rete 4. History A symbol of Neapolitan song of the second half of the twentieth century, the Festival della Canzone Napoletana was born in Naples in 1952, the year following the birth of the Sanremo Music Festival. Ornella Vanoni
Ornella Vanoni (; born 22 September 1934) is an Italian singer-songwriter and actress. She is one of the longest-standing Italian artists, having started performing in 1956. She has released about 112 works between LP, EPs and greatest hits albums, and is considered one of most popular interpreters of Italian pop music. During her long career she has sold over 65 million records. Artistic career Vanoni started her artistic career in 1960 as a theatre actress. She mostly performed in Bertolt Brecht works, under the direction of Giorgio Strehler at his Piccolo Teatro in Milan. At the same time, she started a music career. The folklore and popular songs she explored in her early records, especially the ones about the criminal underworld in Milan, resulted in her receiving the nickname ("Underworld Singer"). Fausto Cigliano
Fausto Cigliano (15 February 1937 – 17 February 2022) was an Italian singer, guitarist, and actor. Life and career Born in Naples into a humble family, Cigliano approached the music at young age, after having received a guitar as a gift, and he made his record debut in 1953. Cigliano became first known thanks to his participation to the Napoli Music Festival, that he later won in 1959, in couple with Teddy Reno with the song "Sarrà... chi sà". In 1957 he ranked first at the Italian hit parade with the single "Che m'ha 'mparato a fa'". Between 1959 and 1964 he was entered into the main competition at the Sanremo Music Festival five times. In the second half of the 1950s he also appeared in several comedy films. In 1976, Cigliano graduated in guitar at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome. The Sanremo Music Festival, officially the Italian Song Festival () and commonly known as just (), is the most popular Italian song contest and awards ceremony, held annually in the city of Sanremo, Liguria. Peppino Gagliardi (born 25 May 1940) is an Italian singer. Gagliardi was born in Naples. His first hit in Italy came in 1963 with "T'amo e t'amerò". In 1970, he had another big hit with the song, Settembre, and more hits followed in the early 1970s. He achieved two-second placings at the Sanremo Music Festival: in 1972 with "Come le viole" and in 1972 with "Come un ragazzino". His music declined in popularity in the 1980s and 1990s. His last entry at the Sanremo Music Festival was "L'alba" in 1993. Gennaro Di Giacomo (1918–2005) was an Italian drummer and singer. Enzo Del Forno (singer)
Enzo Del Forno (born 24 January 1950) is a retired Italian high jumper who won three medals at the International athletics competitions. Biography Del Forno finished tenth at the 1972 Olympic Games and fifth at the 1974 European Indoor Championships. He then won a silver medal at the 1975 Mediterranean Games. At the Summer Universiade he won a bronze medal in 1973 and a gold in 1975. Nationally Del Forno won five high jump titles, three outdoors (1973–1975) and two indoors (1973, 1974). Mario Merola (6 April 1934 – 12 November 2006) was an Italian singer and actor, most prominently known for having rejuvenated the traditional popular Neapolitan melodrama known as the ''sceneggiata''. He was nicknamed ''the King of the sceneggiata'' to be able to give this kind typically a regional and a national popularity and success unknown before, to make a film genre, representing all of this even off the stage, so being able to put a face to sceneggiata.
