Festival Presidente
The ''Festival Presidente'' (''Presidente'' Festival) previously known as Festival Presidente de Música Latina, is a music festival in the Dominican Republic. It is one of the most important musical events in Latin America and is the largest in the Caribbean region. The festival is arranged by the Cervecería Nacional Dominicana (makers of Presidente beer) and is celebrated every two years for three days during October in the Estadio Olímpico Félix Sánchez of Santo Domingo. History The idea of the Festival came about in 1995, when the ''Cervecería Nacional Dominicana'' chose to make an event to reward the loyalty of the Dominican people towards '' Cerveza Presidente''. Dark Latin Groove (DLG) is a salsa band that mixes salsa, reggae and hip-hop. The group was brought together in New York by producer Sergio George (who also signed them to his record company Sir George Records) and included Huey Dunbar, Fragancia, and James "Da Barba" de Jesus. Beginnings Looking for vocalists, Sergio George discovered within the salsa club scenes both Huey Dunbar and James "Da Barba" de Jesus. De Jesus had previously been a backup singer for both Tito Nieves and Sistah Souljah. Grupo Niche is a salsa (music), salsa group founded in 1978 in Bogotá, Colombia. In 1982, the group settled in the city of Santiago de Cali, Cali, Colombia, enjoying great popularity throughout Latin America. It was founded by :es:Jairo Varela, Jairo Varela and :es:Alexis Lozano, Alexis Lozano. Varela remained with the group throughout his life, serving as producer, director, songwriter, vocalist and guiro player. Jerry Rivera (born Gerardo Rivera Rodríguez on July 31, 1973) is a Puerto Rican salsa singer and songwriter. Early years Rivera was born in Humacao, a town located on the eastern coast of Puerto Rico. He moved with his family to Levittown in the town of Toa Baja, where he received his primary and secondary education. His entire family consists of musicians, including tropical recording artists and younger sister Saned. Two other brothers, Ito and Jose, are professional instrumental musicians.
