Adam Ferrie
Adam Ferrie (April 15, 1777 – December 24, 1863) was an early Canadian businessman and political figure who lived much of his life in Scotland. Biography Ferrie was born in Irvine, Ayrshire, Scotland in 1777 and set up a cotton printing shop there in 1792. He moved to Glasgow in 1799. After expanding rapidly until around 1815. After that, his business declined due to failures of associates he invested in. To improve his sales in Canada and establish his sons, he set up an import-export firm with William Cormack in Montreal. He moved to Montreal with his family in 1829 so that he could keep better control of the business. Ferrie opened a branch in Hamilton; his sons, Colin Campbell and Adam Jr., managed the operation there. Additional branches were opened in Preston, Brantford, Nelson and Dundas. Colin Campbell Ferrie
Colin Campbell Ferrie (May 1, 1808 – November 9, 1856) was a Canadian merchant, banker, and politician. Born in Glasgow, the son of Adam Ferrie and Rachel Campbell, he came to Montreal from Scotland in 1824 to work in his father's new wholesale and forwarding company. By 1829, Colin, his brother Adam and his father had joined forces to supply and run a store in Hamilton, Upper Canada, under the name of Colin Ferrie and Company. He married Catherine Beasley in 1836, and they had two sons. From 1829 to 1833, additional stores were opened in places such as Brantford, Preston, Nelson, Dundas, and Waterloo. A founder of the Gore Bank, Ferrie was its second president from 1839 until his death in 1856. He was the first mayor of Hamilton and served in 1847. Ferrie also represented Hamilton in the Legislative Assembly of Upper Canada from 1836 to 1841. David Ferrie
David William Ferrie (March 28, 1918 – February 22, 1967) was an American pilot who was alleged by New Orleans District Attorney Jim Garrison to have been involved in a conspiracy to assassinate President John F. Kennedy. Garrison also alleged that Ferrie knew Lee Harvey Oswald. Ferrie denied any involvement in a conspiracy and said he never knew Oswald. Decades later, photos emerged establishing that Ferrie had been in the same Civil Air Patrol unit as Oswald in the 1950s, but critics have argued this does not prove that either Ferrie or Oswald was involved in an assassination plot. Early life Ferrie was born in Cleveland, Ohio. A Roman Catholic, Ferrie attended St. Ignatius High School, John Carroll University, St. Mary's Seminary, where he studied for the priesthood, and Baldwin Wallace College. Ferrie Bodde
Ferrie Bodde (born 5 May 1982 in Delft) is a Dutch former footballer who played as a midfielder. He is currently a coach at Eredivisie team ADO Den Haag. Career ADO Den Haag Bodde started his senior career with Dutch side ADO Den Haag, signing professional forms with them in July 2000 at the age of 18. Bodde spent seven years with the club, playing over 150 games and scoring ten goals. On 13 June 2007, Bodde signed for Swansea City for an initial fee of £50,000, rising to £85,000 if the club were promoted. Gladstone Mansfield Ferrie (21 November 1892 – 4 July 1955) was a Liberal party member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was born in Denver, Colorado, United States and came to Canada in 1906. He attended Mew Hall School in England at Burton on Trent, then became a farmer and livestock dealer by career. Ferrie served in World War I under the 2nd Engineers as a corporal. For 20 years, he was also a reeve of Rural Municipality of Invermay No. 305. Gordon Ferrie Hull (October 7, 1870 in Garnet, Ontario, Canada – October 7, 1956) was a Canadian-American mathematician, teacher and physicist, especially known for the experimental detection of the radiation pressure exerted by light which he achieved in 1903. Life Hull began his career in 1890-1891 as a teacher of mathematics and science at Hamilton Collegiate Institute, Ontario. He attended Toronto University where he obtained his bachelor's degree in 1892 and became a Fellow in physics, University of Toronto 1892-1895 . Kenneth Andrew Ferrie (born 28 September 1978) is an English professional golfer. Early life and amateur career Ferrie was born in Ashington, Northumberland. He won the British Boys Championship in 1996 and made his first appearance in a European Tour event that year as an invitee at his local event, the Slaley Hall Northumberland Challenge. He attended Midland College in Texas, United States, where he was a two time NJCAA All-American. Professional career Ferrie turned professional in 1999. He began his career on the second tier Challenge Tour in 2000, claiming his first win at the Tessali Open del Sud.
