Ferras
Ferras Alqaisi ( ; born July 2, 1982) is an American singer-songwriter from Los Angeles, California. He is well known for his single "Hollywood's Not America" from his debut album ''Aliens & Rainbows'', which was featured as the exit song during the semi-final round of ''American Idol'' season 7. He is signed with Unsub Records, a subsidiary of Capitol Records founded by Katy Perry, being the first artist to sign with her label. In June 2014 he released his self-titled EP through the label. Early life and education Ferras was born in 1982 in Illinois. After his parents divorced when he was an early age, his father promised him a trip to Disneyland and instead took him back to Amman, Jordan, his father's homeland. His mother eventually succeeded in bringing him back to the United States, eventually moving to Southern California. He also attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. ''Aliens & Rainbows'' is the debut album by American pop rock singer-songwriter Ferras. It was released digitally on iTunes on March 11, 2008, and in CD format until April 1, 2008. The album was preceded by lead single " Hollywood's Not America". The album's second single was the track "Liberation Day", which failed to chart. The album's third and final single was the track "Rush", which Ferras performed live with Katy Perry; it also failed to chart. ''Aliens & Rainbows'' charted at number 97 on the ''Billboard'' 200 selling 5,245 copies. It has since sold over 27,000 copies. "Hollywood's Not America" is a song by American pop singer/songwriter Ferras and is featured on his debut studio album, ''Aliens & Rainbows''. It was released on January 29, 2008, as the lead single from that album. Soon after the single's release, it was revealed that "Hollywood's Not America" would feature as the exit music on popular reality TV show ''American Idol''. However, Graham Colton's " Best Days" was used for the first elimination of the semi-finals. Additionally, on February 29, 2008, it was announced that "Celebrate Me Home" performed by Ruben Studdard would be the exit song for the current season, in contradiction to earlier reports that "Hollywood's Not America" will be used. Unsub Records (originally titled Metamorphosis Music) is an American record label owned by Capitol Music Group and founded in 2014 by singer Katy Perry. History Perry first announced plans to launch her own label in June 2012. She spoke to ''The Hollywood Reporter'' about how the label will be managed: "When this record label does come to fruition, I'm going to try and avoid the things that take away any fighting chance for an artist to have financial success. As people are coming to me with opportunities, I'm thinking, 'How would I want to be treated?'"
