Ferns St Aidan's GAA
Ferns St Aidan's is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Ferns, County Wexford, Ireland. The club was founded in 1886 and fields teams in hurling, Gaelic football and camogie. Overview Facilities Ferns St Aidan's has three full-sized adult pitches (one of which is the exact dimensions of Croke Park, and is regularly used by county teams for training) as well as a smaller, underage, pitch. The club also have a hurling wall for practice sessions, a clubhouse with four dressing rooms and a meeting room, two tennis courts and a walkway around the grounds. Teams Ferns St Aidan's field various teams in hurling, Gaelic football, and camogie at all age groups from under-8 right up to adult level. It is estimated that there are in the region of 300 players involved in the club altogether. Gaelic Athletic Association
The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA; ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael ; CLG) is an Irish international amateur sporting and cultural organisation, focused primarily on promoting indigenous Gaelic games and pastimes, which include the traditional Irish sports of hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball and rounders. Wexford Intermediate Hurling Championship
The Wexford Intermediate Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as The Courtyard Ferns Intermediate Hurling Championship) is an annual hurling competition contested by mid-tier Wexford GAA clubs. The Wexford County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association has organised it since 1930. The title has been won at least once by 38 different clubs. The all-time record-holders are Ferns St Aidan's, who have won the competition six times. Oylegate–Glenbrien are the title-holders (2021) defeating HWH Bunclody in the Final. Éamonn Scallan (born 1971 in Castletown, County Wexford) is an Irish former hurler who played for his local club Ferns St Aidan's and at senior level for the Wexford county team in the 1990s and 2000s. Paul Morris (born 23 February 1990) is an Irish Hurling, hurler who plays for Wexford Senior Hurling Championship, Wexford Senior Championship club Ferns St Aidan's GAA, Ferns St Aidan's and, formerly, at senior level for the Wexford county hurling team, Wexford county team. Ian Byrne (hurler)
Ian Byrne is an Irish hurler who plays as a left wing-forward for the Wexford senior team. Born in Ferns, County Wexford, Byrne first played competitive hurling during his schooling at FCJ Secondary School in Bunclody. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of sixteen when he first linked up with the Wexford minor team before later joining the under-21 side. He made his senior debut during the 2014 league. Byrne has since gone on to become a regular member of the team. At club level, Byrne plays with Ferns St Aidan's. The Wexford Junior Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Permanent TSB Junior Hurling Championship) is an annual hurling competition contested by lower-tier Wexford GAA clubs. The Wexford County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association has organised it since 1903. The all-time record-holders are Ferns St Aidan's, who have won the competition five times. Horeswood are the title holders (2021) defeating Kilmore in the Final. History The Wexford Junior Hurling Championship dates back to 1903. It was the second championship to be established in Wexford following the Wexford Senior Hurling Championship in 1889. No competition was held in 1906 or in 1915. Ferns, County Wexford
Ferns (, short for ) is a historic town in north County Wexford, Ireland. It is from Enniscorthy, where the Gorey to Enniscorthy R772 road joins the R745, both regional roads. The remains of Ferns Castle are in the centre of the town. History Ferns is believed to have been established in the 6th century, when a monastery was founded in 598 dedicated to St Mogue of Clonmore (St. Aidan), who was a Bishop of Ferns. The town became the capital of the Kingdom of Leinster, and also the Capital of Ireland when the kings of that southern part of the province established their seat of power there. It was a very large city, but shrank after a fire destroyed most of it. The city stretched all the way past the River Bann (tributary of the River Slaney), and it is speculated that had it not burned, it would be one of Ireland's biggest cities today. Croke Park ( ga, Páirc an Chrócaigh, ) is a Gaelic games stadium in Dublin, Ireland. Named after Archbishop Thomas Croke, it is referred to as Croker by GAA fans and locals.
