Ferndale is a southeastern suburb of Perth, Western Australia. Its local government area is the City of Canning. It is approximately from Perth's central business district. History The name Ferndale originated from developers who decided not to proceed with the City of Canning's choice of Shearnstead. In 1965, the name change was approved. The eastern section of Ferndale Crescent was once Menzies Road. Low scrub forest covered most of the suburb until developed in the late 1960s and 1970s. Geography Ferndale is bounded by Metcalfe Road to the south-east, the Canning River to the north and north-west, and Bannister Creek to the south-west. The Division of Swan is an Australian electoral division located in Western Australia. Swan is a marginal electorate that has swung between both major political parties in the past two decades. It extends across the Swan River from central Perth, and covers most of the area between the Swan and Canning Rivers. Swan includes the suburbs of South Perth, Como, Victoria Park, Rivervale, Belmont, High Wycombe, Maida Vale, Forrestfield and Wattle Grove. Kwinana Freeway
The Kwinana Freeway is a freeway in and beyond the southern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia, linking central Perth with Mandurah to the south. It is the central section of State Route 2, which continues north as Mitchell Freeway to Clarkson, and south as Forrest Highway towards Bunbury. A section between Canning and Leach highways is also part of National Route 1. Along its route are interchanges with several major roads, including Roe Highway and Mandjoogoordap Drive. The northern terminus of the Kwinana Freeway is at the Narrows Bridge, which crosses the Swan River, and the southern terminus is at Pinjarra Road, east of Mandurah. Planning for the Kwinana Freeway began in the 1950s, and the first segment in South Perth was constructed between 1956 and 1959. Mandurah Railway Line
The Mandurah line is a commuter railway and service on the Transperth network in Western Australia that runs from Perth south to the state's second largest city Mandurah. The service is operated by Transperth Train Operations, a division of the Public Transport Authority. The line is long and has 12 stations. At its northern end, the line (travelling south) begins as a continuation of the Joondalup line at Perth Underground, and (travelling north) ends as a continuation of the Joondalup line at Elizabeth Quay. The first of the line is underground, passing under the Perth central business district. The line surfaces and enters the median of the Kwinana Freeway just north of the Swan River. Swan Transit is an Australian bus company operating Transperth services under contract to the Public Transport Authority. It is a subsidiary of Transit Systems. History On 21 January 1996, Swan Transit commenced operating services in the Midland area with 43 buses. Cannington Railway Station
Cannington Station is a railway station serving the suburb of Cannington south of Perth, Western Australia. It is located from Perth Station on the Armadale/Thornlie Line, part of the Transperth network. History The original Cannington station was located between Station Street and Crawford Road in East Cannington, and was one of the original stations operational when the Armadale Line opened in 1889. As part of the electrification of the line in the early 1990s, the original Cannington station was replaced by a new station to the north-west. Future As part of a Metronet project for several level crossing removals on the Armadale line, Cannington Station will be rebuilt as a new elevated station with island platforms, and a larger, 16 stand bus interchange underneath the station platforms. It is located on the Mandurah line, 11.7 kilometres from Perth station inside the median strip of the Kwinana Freeway serving the suburb of Bull Creek. History The contract for the construction of Bull Creek railway station, along with Canning Bridge railway station and Murdoch railway station, was awarded to John Holland Pty Ltd in November 2004. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground.
