Fernando Ortiz Fernández (16 July 1881 – 10 April 1969) was a Cuban essayist, anthropologist, ethnomusicologist and scholar of Afro-Cuban culture. Ortiz was a prolific polymath dedicated to exploring, recording, and understanding all aspects of indigenous Cuban culture. Ortiz coined the term "transculturation," the notion of converging cultures. Life Ortiz was born in Havana. Disillusioned with politics in the early period of Cuban history and having been a member of President Gerardo Machado's Liberal Party, and a Liberal member of its House of Representatives from 1917 to 1922, he became active in the early nationalist civic revival movement. Throughout his life Ortiz was involved in the foundation of institutions and journals dedicated to the study of Cuban culture. He was the cofounder of the Cuban Academy of the Language in 1926. Fernando Ortiz Arana
Fernando Ortiz Arana (born October 26, 1944 in Santiago de Querétaro) is a Mexicans, Mexican politician and long serving legislator affiliated with the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI). Ortiz Arana is the son of José Ortiz Antañana, a real estate agent, and Virginia Arana Morán. He graduated from the Autonomous University of Queretaro in 1967 with a bachelor's degree in law. He joined the Institutional Revolutionary Party in 1963 and chaired it in the late 1990s. He has also served three terms as a federal congressman, as the President of the Chamber of Deputies (Mexico), President of the Chamber of Deputies in 1991, one term as a senator and has run unsuccessfully for governor in 1997 and in 2003. Fernando Ortiz (born December 25, 1977) is an Argentine former footballer and the current manager of Mexican club América. Playing career Ortiz was spotted by Argentine giants Boca Juniors in 1997. He made his debut in 1998, and helped Boca to win the Primera División 1998 Apertura championship. He played 8 games for Boca in all competitions, scoring three goals. In 1999, he was loaned to RCD Mallorca in Spain, where he played half-a-season for their B team (RCD Mallorca B). He returned that same year to Argentina to play for San Lorenzo. Subsequently, he had spells at Unión de Santa Fe and Banfield, before joining Estudiantes de La Plata in 2004. Ortiz helped Estudiantes to win the 2006 Apertura.
