Fernando Fernández Martín
Fernando Fernández Martín (born 29 May 1943 in Santa Cruz de La Palma, Tenerife) is a Spanish politician who was the president of the Canary Islands between 1987 and 1988. He is now a Member of the European Parliament with the People's Party, part of the European People's Party, and sits on the European Parliament's Committee on Development. He is a substitute member of the Committee on Regional Development, a vice-chair of the Delegation for relations with the countries of the Andean Community and a substitute member for the Delegation to the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly. Santa Cruz De La Palma
Santa Cruz de la Palma (Spanish for ''Holy Cross of La Palma'') is a city and a municipality on the east coast of the island of La Palma in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife of the Canary Islands. Santa Cruz de la Palma is the second-largest city (after Los Llanos de Aridane) and is the capital of the island. The 2004 European Parliament election in Spain was held on Sunday, 13 June 2004, as part of the EU-wide election to elect the 6th European Parliament. All 54 seats allocated to Spain as per the Treaty of Nice were up for election. The election saw a close race between the centre-left Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE), which had accessed power earlier in April in the wake of the 11M train bombings leading up to the 14 March general election, and the centre-right People's Party (PP), still reeling from its election defeat. It marked the only time the PSOE emerged as the largest party in a European Parliament election in Spain between 1989 and 2019.
