Fergus Wallace
Fergus Wallace (born 2 February 1965) is a Scottish former rugby union player for Glasgow Rugby, now known as Glasgow Warriors. He played as a flanker. Rugby Union career Amateur career Wallace's playing career straddled the amateur and professional era. He began his club career with Clarkston before moving on to Glasgow High Kelvinside, Boroughmuir, Hamilton and Glasgow Hawks. Provincial career He captained the amateur Glasgow District in season 1989-90 when they famously won the Scottish Inter-District Championship that season, and were unbeaten the entire season, also beating the touring Fiji international side. He captained the Glasgow District side for 6 years. As the Flanker named for Warriors first match as a professional team - against Newbridge in the European Challenge Cup - Wallace has the distinction of being given Glasgow Warrior No. 6 for the provincial side. Flanker (rugby Union)
Flanker is a position in the sport of rugby union. Each team of 15 players includes two flankers, who play in the Forwards (rugby union), forwards, and are generally classified as either List of rugby union terms#B, blindside or List of rugby union terms#O, openside flankers, numbers 6 and 7 respectively. The name comes from their position in a Scrum (rugby union), scrum in which they 'flank' each set of forwards. They compete for the ball – most commonly in Playing rugby union#Ruck, rucks and Playing rugby union#Maul, mauls. Flankers also assist in pushing in a scrum, but are expected to detach from the scrum as soon as the ball is out to get to the play before the opposition's forwards. European Challenge Cup
The EPCR Challenge Cup is an annual rugby union competition organised by European Professional Club Rugby (EPCR). It is the second-tier competition for clubs based in European leagues behind the European Rugby Champions Cup. Willie John McBride
William James McBride, CBE, better known as Willie John McBride (born 6 June 1940) is a former rugby union footballer who played as a Lock (rugby union), lock for Ireland national rugby union team, Ireland and the British and Irish Lions. He played 63 Test match (rugby union), Tests for Ireland including eleven as captain, and toured with the Lions five times; a record that gave him 17 Lions Test caps. He also captained the most successful ever Lions side, which toured South Africa in 1974. Youth McBride was born at Toomebridge, County Antrim. Owing to his father's death when he was four years old, he spent most of his spare time helping out on his family farm. Because of this he did not start playing rugby until he was 17. The Greenyards
The Greenyards is a sports ground in Melrose, Scottish Borders. It has been the home of Melrose RFC for rugby union matches and the annual Melrose Sevens tournament. The first ever rugby 7s matches were played at the ground in 1883. The professional side Southern Knights use it for home matches in the Super 6 competition. In 2019 the grass pitches were replaced with an artificial surface, with floodlights around the ground. The ground has a capacity of 15,000. History The press box dates from the 1930s. The main stand on the east side of the playing area has 1174 seats. More than 10,000 people were expected at the 2012 Melrose Sevens tournament. In late August 2016, plans were put forward for redevelopment. These plans included increasing the pitch size and improve lighting to be strong enough to cater for television coverage.
