Ferdinand I National College
Ferdinand I National College ( ro, Colegiul Național "Ferdinand I") is a high school in Bacău, Romania, located at 45 George Bacovia Street. Established in 1867, the school's early years were marked by a lack of faculty, a permanent building and teaching material. The first graduating class finished in 1871, and the first dedicated building was finished in 1891. That year, the school was named the Prince Ferdinand Gymnasium. This was changed to Prince Ferdinand High School when a new grade was added in 1897. It was known as Ferdinand I High School from 1914, when its namesake acceded to the Romanian throne, until 1948, when the Communist regime changed the name. Bacău
Bacău ( , , ; hu, Bákó; la, Bacovia) is the main city in Bacău County, Romania. At the 2016 national estimation it had a population of 196,883, making it the 12th largest city in Romania. The city is situated in the historical region of Moldavia, at the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains, and on the Bistrița River (which meets the Siret River about to the south of Bacău). The Ghimeș Pass links Bacău to the region of Transylvania. Gheorghe Cartianu-Popescu
Gheorghe Cartianu-Popescu (8 August 1907–26 June 1982) was a Romanian engineer. He was born in Borca, Neamț County. After attending elementary school in his native commune and in Dobrovăț, Iași County, he went to high school in Bacău, graduating in 1926. Cartianu-Popescu then went to Politehnica University of Bucharest to study engineering, while also attending courses at the Faculty of Mathematics of the University of Bucharest. He received his engineering degree from Politehnica University in 1932, and in 1968 he obtained a Ph.D. degree in engineering from the same university. Constantin Avram
Constantin Avram (February 19, 1911 – February 20, 1987) was a Romanian structural engineer. Born in Ciumași, Bacău County, his parents Nicolai and Maria were peasants; in addition, his father was a mechanic for ''Căile Ferate Române''. The couple worked hard for their children's education; their four sons all earned university degrees, with three becoming structural engineers and the fourth a chemical engineer. Constantin attended Ferdinand I High School in Bacău from 1923 to 1930. He then enrolled in the military engineers officers' school in Bucharest, graduating first in his class in 1932 and becoming a second lieutenant in the Romanian Army. After a yearlong internship, he was sent on a government scholarship to the École militaire et d'application du génie de Versailles.
