Khaleda Zia
Khaleda Zia (; born Khaleda Khanam Putul in 1945) is a Bangladeshi politician who served as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh from March 1991 to March 1996, and again from June 2001 to October 2006. She was the first female prime minister of Bangladesh. She is the widow of former President of Bangladesh Ziaur Rahman. She is the current chairperson and leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) which was founded by Rahman in 1978. After a military coup in 1982, led by Army Chief General Hussain Muhammad Ershad, Zia helped lead the movement for democracy until the fall of Ershad in 1990. She became the prime minister following the BNP party win in the 1991 general election. Sayeed Iskander
Sayeed Iskander (13 January 1953 – 23 September 2012) was a Bangladeshi politician and army major. He was a member of the Bangladeshi parliament from 2001 to 2006, representing the Bangladesh Nationalist Party from the Feni-1 constituency. He was the younger brother of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. Iskander was also the founding chairman of Islamic Television. Early life Sayeed Iskander was born on 13 January 1953 in Dinajpur. He belonged to a Bengali Muslim family with origins in Fulgazi, Feni District. Shirin Akhter
Shirin Akhter (born 12 April 1954) is the general secretary of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal and the incumbent Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Feni-1 constituency since January 2014. Career Akhter is the general secretary of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, the faction led by Hasanul Haq Inu. Inu is a former information minister of Bangladesh. Inu appointed her the general secretary of the party on 12 March 2016. The party then split in two over opposition to her appointment by some party members. The rebel faction was led by Sharif Nurul Ambia and Moinuddin Khan Badal. After a hearing Bangladesh Election Commission recognized the faction led by Inu and Shirin as the mainstream fraction of the party. She was elected unopposed to the Jatiya Sangsad in 2014. Fulgazi Upazila
Fulgazi ( bn, ফুলগাজী), also spelt Phulgazi, is an upazila of the Feni District, located in Bangladesh's Chittagong Division. It is best known as the home upazila of Khaleda Zia, a former Prime Minister of Bangladesh. History In circa 1553, a merchant from the Middle East known as Murad Khan settled in Chittagong, but due to devastating floods, later migrated to modern-day Sripur in Fulgazi. He left behind four sons; Nahar Muhammad Khan, Tahir Muhammad Khan, Phul Muhammad Khan and Arif Muhammad Khan. Phul Muhammad Khan fought under Shamsher Ghazi against the Twipra Kingdom, and himself gained the title of Ghazi. The area came to be known as Phulgazi, or Fulgazi, after Phul Muhammad Khan. In 1701/1701 (1111 in the Tripuri calendar), Nahar Muhammad Khan built a large reservoir in his palace. June 1996 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 12 June 1996. The result was a victory for the Bangladesh Awami League, which won 146 of the 300 seats, beginning Sheikh Hasina's first-term as Prime Minister. Voter turnout was 74.96%, the highest to date. This election was the second to be held in 1996, following controversial elections held in February a few months earlier. Feni is a district located in southeastern Bangladesh. It was a part of the Greater Noakhali, Comilla, Chittagong and Tripura. , the district's estimated population stood at 1,437,371, making it the ninth-most populous district in Chittagong Division.
