Fencing At The 1968 Summer Olympics – Men's Foil
The men's foil was one of eight fencing events on the fencing at the 1968 Summer Olympics programme. It was the fifteenth appearance of the event. The competition was held from 15 to 16 October 1968. 64 fencers from 25 nations competed. Nations had been limited to three fencers each since 1928. The event was won by Ion Drîmbă of Romania, the nation's first medal in the men's foil. Silver went to Jenő Kamuti, the first medal for Hungary in the event since 1948. Daniel Revenu of France repeated as the bronze medalist, the sixth man to win multiple medals in the event. Background This was the 15th appearance of the event, which has been held at every Summer Olympics except 1908 (when there was a foil display only rather than a medal event). Fernando Montes De Oca Fencing Hall
The Fernando Montes de Oca Fencing Hall is an indoor sports venue located in the Magdalena Mixhuca Sports City area of Mexico City. It hosted the fencing competitions and the fencing part of the modern pentathlon competition of the 1968 Summer Olympics. The Olympic Fencing Hall was built between November 13, 1967, and September, 1968, in the Magdalena Mixhuca Sports City. The 310-by-210-foot rectangular structure is covered by a convex roof of corrugated asbestos supported by steel cables. The ground floor had 15 fencing strips—each of which was provided with a two-sided scoreboard, a judges' podium and a control table—and 37 cubicles for competitors. On the south side were facilities for the press, dressing rooms, etc. The north side housed offices, a lounge, a warm-up area and additional dressing rooms and service areas. Graham Paul
Graham René Paul (born 15 May 1947) is a retired British international fencer. Fencing career He competed at the 1968, 1972, 1976, and 1984 Summer Olympics. He represented England and won a gold medal in the team foil and a bronze medal in the individual foil, at the 1966 British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Kingston, Jamaica. Four years later he repeated the success by winning another gold and bronze at the 1970 British Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Scotland. He was a six times British fencing champion, winning four foil titles and two épée titles at the British Fencing Championships, from 1966 to 1973.
