Fellsman
The Fellsman is an annual organised walk and fell race of about sixty miles in the Yorkshire Dales from Ingleton to Threshfield. History The event was devised by Don Thompson and the Brighouse District (Brigantes) Rover Crew and the first hike was held in 1962, with the route then running in the opposite direction from the present one. The organisation was later taken on by the Keighley Scout Service Team. The Team has since changed its name to Keighley Scout Service Network. Route The route includes Ingleborough, Whernside, Gragareth, Great Coum, Dent, Blea Moor, Great Knoutberry, Snaizeholme, Dodd Fell, Fleet Moss, Middle Tongue, Cray, Buckden Pike, Great Whernside before finishing in Threshfield. Carol Morgan
Carol Morgan is an Irish ultrarunner, who specialises in non-stop mountain ultramarathons 100 km and longer, often in challenging conditions with significant ascents / descents. Born in Dublin in 1973, where she trained as a nurse, she is an advanced practitioner in emergency medicine. Morgan holds the course record for endurance ultra event, the Kerry Way Ultra. Early running years Morgan started running in her thirties. and has been running with Nidd Valley Running Club in Harrogate, Yorkshire, with whom she still regularly competes, since at least 2010, gradually adding longer and longer distances to her repertoire. Jasmin Paris
Jasmin Karina Paris (born November 1983) is a British runner who has been a national fell running champion and who has set records for the Bob Graham Round and the Ramsay Round. She is well known in Great Britain as a fell runner, but became known on the international stage as a sky runner after her victory in the 2016 Skyrunner World Series (Sky Extreme) and bronze medal at the 2016 Skyrunning World Championships (Sky Ultra). She received significant media attention for her overall win in the 2019 Spine Race. Biography She is the daughter of mathematicians Jeff Paris and Alena Vencovská. Bill Smith (May 1936 – September 2011) was a fell runner and author on the sport. Mike Hartley (runner)
Michael Hartley (born 14 July 1952) is a British former ultramarathon runner. He won the Fellsman in 1984, 1987, 1989 and 1990 and was also the first finisher in some of the LDWA’s hundred mile events, including the White Peak Hundred in 1988 which he completed in 17:58. In 1989, he finished second in the West Highland Way Race in a time of 15:32. Hartley set fastest known times for running several long-distance footpaths in the UK. In 1988, he completed the Southern Upland Way, around 212 miles, in 55:55 which stood until 2020 when it was beaten by Jack Scott. In 1989, Hartley set records for the Dales Way with a time of 13:34 (later beaten by Dennis Beresford) and the Staffordshire Way with a time of 16:10. In July 1989, Hartley completed the Pennine Way in a record time of 2 days, 17 hours and 20 minutes. Snaizeholme
Snaizeholme is a small side valley of Wensleydale in the Yorkshire Dales National Park (YDNP), North Yorkshire, England. The valley is noted for its red squirrel reserve, the only place within the North Yorkshire part of the Yorkshire Dales National Park where red squirrels are known to live, and a tree re-wilding project. Along with Ribblehead further to the west, the upper slopes of Snaizeholme are known to be one of the wettest places within the YDNP. Rainfall on Snaizeholme Fell (at is a mean average of per year. Nicky Spinks
Nicola "Nicky" Spinks (born 22 April 1967) is a British long-distance runner, specialising in fell running, who set women's records for the major fell-running challenges the Ramsay Round, the Paddy Buckley Round and the Bob Graham Round. She held the women's records for all three Rounds simultaneously until 2016, and is the holder of the overall record for the double Bob Graham Round and the only person ever to complete doubles of the other two Rounds. Fleet Moss
Fleet Moss is a upland area separating Wharfedale from Wensleydale in North Yorkshire, England. The area is above sea level (although nearby peaks and the road achieve higher altitudes). Fleet Moss is noted for its peat blanket bog, which has been dated to the Neolithic period. The area is ombrotrophic; this means it needs rain, hail snow and fog for its nutrients. Fleet Moss is known as the most eroded blanket bog in all of Yorkshire; because of its observable damage, it is known colloquially as ''The Somme'', and as such, is visible from space. It is also known recreationally for the road which runs north/south through Fleet Moss between Oughtershaw and Gayle, which is the highest (paved) road in Yorkshire. Jeremy Bragg (born 13 April 1981) is a British ultramarathon runner. A notable performance early in Bragg’s running career was at the West Highland Way Race in 2006 which he won in a time of 15:44, then a course record. The next year, he was the United Kingdom 100k champion and finished in eighteenth position at the IAU 100 km World Championships in Winschoten. In 2009, Bragg was victorious at both the Anglo Celtic Plate 100k, where he finished in a time of 6:58, and in the 100k race at the Commonwealth Mountain and Ultradistance Running Championships in Keswick. The Yorkshire Dales is an upland area of the Pennines in the Historic counties of England, historic county of Yorkshire, England, most of it in the Yorkshire Dales National Park created in 1954.
