Felix Kaplan
Felix C. "F.C." Kaplan (May 17, 1897 in Owatonna, Minnesota – July 5, 1989) was an American politician and businessman. He was the son of Josef Karel Kaplan, an early Minnesota pioneer. Kaplan attended Owatonna High School, then went to the University of Minnesota and received his bachelor's degree in agricultural education and chemistry. He joined the Aitkin High School faculty and taught agriculture and general science, and was named "Teacher of the Year" in 1963. He married Hazel Oerke in 1930. She was a graduate of St. Olaf College and was an English teacher and the principal of Hinckley, Minnesota, High School. Kaplan was in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1949 to 1954 and lived in Aitkin County, Minnesota Aitkin County ( ) is a County (United States), county in the U.S. state of Minnesota. Owatonna, Minnesota
Owatonna () is a city in Steele County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 25,599 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Steele County. Owatonna is home to the Steele County Fairgrounds, which hosts the Steele County Free Fair in August. Interstate 35 and U.S. Highways 14, and 218 are three of the main routes in the city. History Owatonna was first settled in 1853 around the Straight River. Aitkin High School
Aitkin High School (AHS) is a public high school in Aitkin, Minnesota, United States. The school serves students in grades 7– 12. The school enrolls approximately 600 students per year, with 400 students in the high school and 200 attending middle school. The school is a combined middle and high school, since the town does not have the needed population of adolescents to include a separate middle school. Class sizes are around 100 students, while some classes, such as the Class of 1978, have enrolled up to 160 students at one time. The Class of 2010 is one of the smallest Aitkin High School classes in history, with a class size at graduation of 83. The class entered with 102 students in 2004. Hinckley is a city in Pine County, Minnesota, United States, located at the junction of Interstate 35 and Minnesota State Highway 48. The population was 1,800 at the 2010 census. Hinckley's name in the Ojibwe language is ''Gaa-zhiigwanaabikokaag'', meaning "the place abundant with grindstones" due to being located along the Grindstone River. Portions of the Mille Lacs Indian Reservation are located within and adjacent to Hinckley. On September 1, 1894, the Great Hinckley Fire killed more than 400 people.
