Slovenia has submitted films for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film since 1993, but has not yet won an award. Slovenia's 2008 submission, ''Rooster's Breakfast'', became the highest-grossing Slovenian film of all time. Before 1993, Slovenia was a republic within Yugoslavia. In 1961, a film shot in Serbo-Croatian and representing Yugoslavia (''The Ninth Circle'') became the first and only film directed by a Slovenian to be nominated for an Oscar. Submissions The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited the film industries of various countries to submit their best film for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film since 1956. This is a list of submissions to the 69th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film was created in 1956 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to honour non-English-speaking films produced outside the United States. The award is handed out annually, and is accepted by the winning film's director, although it is considered an award for the submitting country as a whole. Countries are invited by the Academy to submit their best films for competition according to strict rules, with only one film being accepted from each country. For the 69th Academy Awards, thirty-nine films were submitted in the category Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. The submission deadline was set on November 1, 1996. Polona Juh (born June 2, 1971) is a Slovenian actress. She is the daughter of the Slovenian actors Mojca Ribič and Boris Juh.
