Felix-Rexhausen Award
{{Use dmy dates, date=January 2014 The Felix-Rexhausen Award were created 1998 by the ''Bund Lesbischer und Schwuler JournalistInnen'' (the German affiliate of NLGJA – the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association) to recognize and honor the mainstream media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the LGBT community and the issues that affect their lives. The Felix-Rexhausen Award is presented annually. It is named in memory of Felix Rexhausen, a German, gay writer. It is presented to an individual who has made a significant difference in promoting equal rights for the LGBT community. NLGJA
NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ Journalists, is an American professional association dedicated to unbiased coverage of LGBTQ issues in the media. It is based in Washington, D.C., and the membership consists primarily of journalists, students, educators, and communications professionals. The organization was previously known as the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association (NLGJA), but changed its name in 2013 to "NLGJA: The Association of LGBT Journalists" to reflect the diversity of the communities it represents. In 2016, it added a "Q", updating its name to "NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ Journalists." LGBT
' is an initialism that stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender. In use since the 1990s, the initialism, as well as some of its common variants, functions as an umbrella term for sexuality and gender identity. The LGBT term is an adaptation of the initialism ', which began to replace the term ''gay'' (or ''gay and lesbian'') in reference to the broader LGBT community beginning in the mid-to-late 1980s. Felix Rexhausen
Felix Rexhausen (31 December 1932 – 6 February 1992) was a German journalist, editor and author. As a journalist, he wrote for ''Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger'', ''Westdeutscher Rundfunk'', and the magazines ''Die Zeit'' and ''Der Spiegel''. Biography Rexhausen lived in Leipzig and Hamburg during his childhood. He studied Economics at the University of Cologne, where he finished 1959. He then worked as an editor for the ''Westdeutscher Rundfunk'' in Cologne, and later was a journalist for ''Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger'', ''Der Spiegel'' and ''Die Zeit''. Together with Carola Stern and Gerd Ruge, Rexhausen founded the German chapter of Amnesty International in 1961. After 1968, Rexhausen worked as an author in Hamburg, writing novels, satires and lyric poetry. One of his themes is homosexuality. Rexhausen died on 6 February 1992 in Hamburg. Monika Mengel
The Flying Lesbians were a seven-woman German music group that existed from 1974 to 1977 and released an eponymous album in 1975. The album was successful, with about 17,000 LPs sold. They were one of the first women's rock groups in Europe. History The ''Flying Lesbians'' functioned as a co-operative, wrote lyrics in German and English, and composed all songs by themselves. They also did all their own set up and transported all the equipment for their shows, part of their goal of "being liberated from male assistance." For copyright purposes they worked under the joint pseudonym of "Emily Pankhurst." Their logo was a labrys, a double-headed axe. Their website explains that this is an ancient symbol of women's power throughout Europe. Arte (; (), sometimes stylized in lowercase or uppercase in its logo) is a European public service channel dedicated to culture. It is made up of three separate companies: the Strasbourg-based European Economic Interest Grouping ARTE, plus two member companies acting as editorial and programme production centres, ARTE France in Paris (formerly known as La Sept) and ARTE Deutschland in Baden-Baden (a subsidiary of the two main public German TV networks ARD and ZDF). Das Erste (; "The First") is the flagship national television channel of the ARD association of public broadcasting corporations in Germany. Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR; "Bavarian Broadcasting") is a public-service radio and television broadcaster, based in Munich, capital city of the Free State of Bavaria in Germany. BR is a member organization of the ARD consortium of public broadcasters in Germany. History Bayerischer Rundfunk was founded in Munich in 1922 as Deutsche Stunde in Bayern. Roger Willemsen (15 August 1955 – 7 February 2016) was a German author, essayist and TV presenter. Biography Willemsen was born and passed his Abitur in Bonn. He studied German philology (Germanistik), philosophy and history of art in Bonn, Munich and Vienna and was awarded a scholarship by the Evangelisches Studienwerk. He did his postgraduate studies on Robert Musil and received his PhD. He started his TV career in 1991 as head interviewer at ''0137'', a daily talkshow and signature programme at newly founded German pay-TV ''Premiere''. He performed about 1.000 interviews, including some with imprisoned members of the Red Army Faction, a fugitive bank robber, a leftover cosmonaut in space station MIR and a cannibal. Aljoscha Pause is a German filmmaker, director, TV journalist, writer, and producer. He is a member of the Deutsche Filmakademie and the German Academy for Football Culture. Background Aljoscha Pause was born on 24 January 1972 in Bonn, Germany. After he graduated high school, he studied romance philology at Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms University. Pause received narration training at Deutsche Welle from 1998 until 2002. Throughout his college years, Pause worked at Pantheon, a cabaret theater founded by his father, Rainer Pause.
