Felipe Santiago Xicoténcatl
Felipe Santiago Xicoténcatl (May 1, 1804 – September 13, 1847) was a colonel in the Mexican Army under president Antonio López de Santa Anna. Xicoténcatl was born in the town of San Bernandino Contla in the state of Tlaxcala. He joined the army in 1829 as a lieutenant. In 1843 he became lieutenant colonel. During the Mexican-American War Lt. Colonel Xicoténcatl led the San Blas Battalion. It is said that Lt. Col. The Mexican Army ( es, Ejército Mexicano) is the combined land and air branch and is the largest part of the Mexican Armed Forces; it is also known as the National Defense Army. Tlaxcala (; , ; from nah, Tlaxcallān ), officially the Free and Sovereign State of Tlaxcala ( es, Estado Libre y Soberano de Tlaxcala), is one of the 32 states which comprise the Federal Entities of Mexico. Batallón De San Blas
The San Blas Battalion was a Mexican infantry unit founded in 1823 in San Blas, Nayarit. Under the name ''Batallón Activo Guardacostas de San Blas'' (San Blas Active Coastguard Battalion), it saw action on several occasions culminating in the Mexican–American War. The battalion participated in the Battle of Chapultepec, where commanded by Lt. Colonel Felipe Santiago Xicoténcatl, aided in the defense of the Military Academy in the Chapultepec Castle. Of the 300 men comprising the battalion, only a few survived the battle. It is said that Lt. Col. The Battle of Chapultepec was a battle between American forces and Mexican forces holding the strategically located Chapultepec Castle just outside Mexico City, fought 13 September 1847 during the Mexican–American War. The building, sitting atop a hill, was an important position for the defense of the city. The battle was part of the campaign to take Mexico City, for which General Winfield Scott's U.S. Army totaled 7,200 men.
