Felipe Dulzaides
__FORCETOC__ Felipe Dulzaides (born in Cuba, February 23, 1965) is a Cuban-born American contemporary artist. His practice includes installation, photography, video, drawing, sculpture and performance. Two important cities of reference of his works are San Francisco, California and Havana, Cuba. Family and education Felipe Dulzaides was born in Havana during the early period of the Cuban revolution, a time characterized by collective hope and enthusiasm. He is the son of an influential musician (they share the same name) and a kindergarten teacher. His father played an important role in the development of jazz in Cuba. His family also includes the ''Origenes'' group poets Eliseo Diego, Fina Garcia-Marruz and Cintio Vitier. In the mid 1980s Dulzaides attended the dramatic arts program of the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA). Conceptual art, also referred to as conceptualism, is art in which the concept(s) or idea(s) involved in the work take precedence over traditional aesthetic, technical, and material concerns. Some works of conceptual art, sometimes called installations, may be constructed by anyone simply by following a set of written instructions. San Francisco Art Institute
San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI) was a private college of contemporary art in San Francisco, California. Founded in 1871, SFAI was one of the oldest art schools in the United States and the oldest west of the Mississippi River. Approximately 220 undergraduates and 112 graduate students were enrolled in 2021. The institution was accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD), and was a member of the Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design (AICAD). David Ireland (artist)
David Kenneth Ireland (August 25, 1930 – May 17, 2009) was an American sculptor, conceptual artist and Minimalist architect. Early life Born in Bellingham, Washington. He studied Printmaking and Industrial Arts at California College of Arts and Crafts (CCA), graduating in 1953 with his BFA degree. After college he attended United States Army service. After leaving the Army Ireland traveled Europe extensively, working as an illustrator, and eventually traveled to Africa to lead safari trips. Work It was not until his 40s that Ireland decided to dedicate himself to work as a full-time artist. He returned to the United States and returned to school, this time at the San Francisco Art Institute. Upon graduating from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1974, Ireland spent a year working in New York, before returning to settle in San Francisco. Tony Labat
Tony Labat (born 1951) is a Cuban-born multimedia and installation artist. He has exhibited internationally over the last 40 years, developing a body of work in performance, Video, sculpture and Installation. Labat's work has dealt with investigations of the body, popular culture, identity, urban relations, politics, and the media. His work is included in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York. Early life and education Labat was born in Havana, Cuba in 1951. He emigrated from Cuba to Miami, Florida when he was fifteen. He received his BFA (1978) and his MFA (1980) from the San Francisco Art Institute, where he has taught since 1985. Paul Joseph Kos (born December 23, 1942) is an American conceptual artist and educator, he is one of the founders of the Bay Area Conceptual Art movement in California. Kos incorporates video, sound and interactivity into his sculptural installations. Currently Kos lives and works in San Francisco. Biography Paul Kos was born December 23, 1942 in Rock Springs, Wyoming, to parents Bertha Kos and small-town doctor Paul A. Kos. He moved from Wyoming to San Francisco in the early 1960s. He received both his B.F.A degree in 1965 and M.F.A degree in 1967 from the San Francisco Art Institute.
