Fedorenko V. United States
''Fedorenko v. United States'', 449 U.S. 490 (1981), was a United States Supreme Court case which held that people who assisted in Nazi persecutions, whether voluntarily or involuntarily, were not eligible for visas to enter the United States, and thus could not legally obtain United States citizenship. It has been used as an important precedent in many denaturalization cases against former Nazis. Following the ruling, the defendant, Feodor Fedorenko, was deported to the Soviet Union. He was tried for treason, war crimes, and collaborationism for working in Treblinka extermination camp. Fedorenko was sentenced to death in 1986, and executed in 1987. See also *'' Chaunt v. Feodor Fedorenko
Feodor Fedorenko or Fyodor Federenko; ''Fedir Fedorenko''; russian: Фёдор Демьянович Федоренко (September 17, 1907 – July 28, 1987) was a Soviet-Nazi collaborator and war criminal who served at Treblinka extermination camp in German occupied Poland during World War II. As a former Soviet citizen admitted to the United States under a DPA visa (1949), Fedorenko became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1970. He was discovered in 1977 and denaturalized in 1981. Subsequently, he was deported to the USSR, sentenced to death there for treason and participating in the Holocaust. Fedorenko was executed in 1987. Early life Fedorenko was born in Dzhankoy in the Sivash region of the Crimea, in southern Ukraine (then part of the Russian Empire). Boļeslavs Maikovskis
Boļeslavs Maikovskis (21 January 1904 – 19 April 1996) was a Latvian people, Latvian Collaboration with the Axis powers#Latvia, Nazi collaborator who served as chief of police for the second precinct of Rēzekne while the Germans occupied Latvia in World War II. After the war Maikovskis went to Austria before reaching the United States in 1951 where he served on a subcommittee of the Committee to Re-elect the President during Richard M. Nixon's 1972 campaign. Maikovskis lied on his US visa application when asked whether he had "been complicit in the persecutions of others during World War II". That question was removed from the application the year after Maikovskis emigrated to the United States. Maikovskis lived in Mineola, New York, Mineola, New York, for 36 years, where he was active in Latvian organizations, and worked as a carpenter until his retirement. The ''Columbia Law Review'' is a law review edited and published by students at Columbia Law School. The journal publishes scholarly articles, essays, and student notes. It was established in 1901 by Joseph E. Corrigan and John M. Woolsey, who served as the review's first editor-in-chief and secretary. The ''Columbia Law Review'' is one of four law reviews that publishes the ''Bluebook''. History The ''Columbia Law Review'' represents the school's third attempt at a student-run law periodical. In 1885, the ''Columbia Jurist'' was founded by a group of six students but ceased publication in 1887. Despite its short run, the ''Jurist'' is credited with partially inspiring the creation of the Harvard Law Review, which began publication a short time later. Anton Geiser
Anton Geiser (surname also spelled Geisser; October 17, 1924 – December 26, 2012) was a Yugoslav-born member of the SS-Totenkopfverbände during World War II, who served as a guard at both the Sachsenhausen and Buchenwald concentration camps. In 1956 he moved to the United States, settling in Sharon, Pennsylvania, where he had family. In 1962 he became a naturalized American citizen. In 2006 he was stripped of his citizenship on the grounds that it would not have been granted had the full details of his role in the German military been known; in 2010 a US judge ordered him deported to Austria, the country from which he had immigrated. He died in Pittsburgh on December 21, 2012, while still battling his deportation. Background Geiser was born in Yugoslavia, in the village of Selci Đakovački (part of Đakovo) in eastern Croatia. The Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) is the highest court in the federal judiciary of the United States. It has ultimate appellate jurisdiction over all U.S. federal court cases, and over state court cases that involve a point of federal law. It also has original jurisdiction over a narrow range of cases, specifically "all Cases affecting Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, and those in which a State shall be Party." The court holds the power of judicial review, the ability to invalidate a statute for violating a provision of the Constitution.
