The Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) Library is the primary academic library for the FUTO in Nigeria. The library is adjacent to lecture rooms, laboratories and hostels. It has ICT section that provides e-resources databases that include Science Direct, Ebscohost, Research4life databases, TEEAL and other free electronic resources. History The Federal University of Technology Owerri was founded in 1982. On 9 November 1981, the library was formally commissioned for use. It began with the initial student population of 225; 28 teaching staff 28 and 6 academic support staff. The initial library stock was 2,500. From this humble beginning, the University Library rose to 22 staff providing traditional library services to 80 students in a small hall. It later evolved to 96,501 volumes of resources with 124 staffers providing 24,700 users with innovative knowledge service activities. Owerri
Owerri ( , ) is the capital city of Imo State in Nigeria, set in the heart of Igboland. It is also the state's largest city, followed by Orlu, Okigwe and Ohaji/Egbema. Owerri consists of three Local Government Areas including Owerri Municipal, Owerri North and Owerri West, it has an estimated population of about 1,401,873 as of 2016 and is approximately in area. Tinlib was an integrated library system based on a database management system named Tinman. The system was developed for MS-DOS and UNIX. The development of academic libraries in Nigeria can be traced back to pre-independence period when the University of Ibadan and its library were established in 1948. HINARI
Hinari Access to Research for Health Programme was set up by the World Health Organization and major publishers to enable developing countries to access collections of biomedical and health literature. There are up to 15,000 e-journals and up to 60,000 online books available to health institutions in more than 10 countries. Hinari is part of Research4Life, the collective name for five programs - Hinari (focusing on health), AGORA (focusing on agriculture), OARE (focusing on environment), ARDI (focusing on applied science and technology) and GOALI (focusing on law and justice). Together, Research4Life provides lower income countries with free or low cost access to academic and professional peer-reviewed content online. AGORA

The Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) is a federal government university in Owerri West, the capital of Imo State, Nigeria. The university is bounded by the communities of Eziobodo, Umuchima, Ihiagwa and Obinze. It is the premier federal university of technology in the South-East and South-South parts of Nigeria. The university is the oldest university of technology in Nigeria and was established in 1980 by executive fiat with the composition and appointment of the first provisional council by Nigeria's first Executive President, Shehu Shagari.
