FedExForum
FedExForum is a multi-purpose arena located in Downtown Memphis, Tennessee. It is the home of the Memphis Grizzlies of the NBA and the NCAA Division I men's basketball program of the University of Memphis, both of whom previously played home games at the Memphis Pyramid. The venue also has the capability of hosting ice hockey games, concerts, and family shows. The arena officially opened in September 2004 after much debate and also a derecho wind storm on July 22, 2003, that nearly brought down the cranes that were building it near the famed Beale Street. Conference USA Men's Basketball Tournament
The Conference USA men's basketball tournament is held annually following the end of the regular season of NCAA Division I Men's Basketball. Format and hosts After the conference realignment, the tournament was held at FedExForum in Memphis, Tennessee, for five seasons. It moved to the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma for the 2010, and then to El Paso, Texas, at the Don Haskins Center for 2011. It returned to FedExForum in 2012, and was set to be played there in 2013, as well. However, after Memphis' decision to leave Conference USA for what ultimately became the American Athletic Conference in 2013–14, the league decided to move the tournament to a site near a school remaining in the conference, ultimately selecting the BOK Center in Tulsa. The Memphis Pyramid, formerly known as the Great American Pyramid and the Pyramid Arena, is a building located in downtown Memphis, Tennessee, United States, at the banks of the Mississippi River. Built in 1991 as a 20,142-seat arena, the facility was owned and operated jointly by the city of Memphis and Shelby County; Shelby County sold its share to Memphis in April 2009. Memphis Tigers Men's Basketball
The Memphis Tigers men's basketball team represents the University of Memphis in NCAA Division I men's college basketball. The Tigers have competed in the American Athletic Conference since 2013. As of 2020, the Tigers had the 26th highest winning percentage in NCAA history. Memphis Summer Storm Of 2003
The Mid-South Derecho of 2003 was a severe derecho event that affected parts of the Southern United States, particularly southwestern Tennessee and northern Mississippi, including the Memphis metropolitan area. It left 7 people dead and enormous damage across the region. Storm On July 22, 2003, a progressive derecho with straight-line winds in excess of 100 miles per hour (160 km/h) struck Crittenden, DeSoto, Fayette, and Shelby Counties, including the city of Memphis. Surrounding counties also reported damage. The storm passed through the area between 6 and 7 am. Impact Over 300,000 homes, 70% of Shelby County, were left without power in the wake of the storm. Main Street Line (MATA Trolley)
The Main Street Line is a line of the Memphis Area Transit Authority trolley system. It began operations in 1993, becoming the first streetcar line to operate in Memphis since 1947. It runs for about along Main Street, with 14 stops in Downtown Memphis. The Main Street Line is concurrent with the Riverfront Loop for almost all of its length.
