Fawzia Rhoda
Fawzia Rhoda is a South African politician serving as a Member of the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature since May 2019. Rhoda is a member of the Democratic Alliance. Political career In the build-up to the provincial election on 8 May 2019, Rhoda was placed fourth on the Democratic Alliance's Northern Cape provincial list. She was elected as the DA won 8 seats. She was sworn in as a Member of the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature on 22 May 2019 following the election. She is the head of the DA's Bo Karoo constituency. In 2020, Rhoda declared her candidacy for Northern Cape DA leader. The provincial congress was held on 5 December 2020. She lost to Harold McGluwa. The Democratic Alliance (, DA) is a South African political party and the official opposition to the ruling African National Congress (ANC). The party is broadly centrist, and has been attributed both centre-left and centre-right policies. It is a member of Liberal International and the Africa Liberal Network. The DA traces its roots to the founding of the anti-apartheid Progressive Party in 1959, with many mergers and name changes between that time and the present. The DA ideologically shows a variety of liberal tendencies, including social liberalism, classical liberalism, and conservative liberalism. 2019 South African General Election
General elections were held in South Africa on 8 May 2019 to elect a new President, National Assembly and provincial legislatures in each province. These were the sixth elections held since the end of apartheid in 1994 and determined who would become the next President of South Africa. Incumbent President Cyril Ramaphosa led the ruling African National Congress, with the party attempting to retain its majority status and secure Ramaphosa a full term in office as president; his predecessor, Jacob Zuma, resigned from office on 14 February 2018. Zuma was already ineligible for a third term in office as the South African Constitution limits a president to serve a maximum of two five-year terms. Harold McGluwa
Harold McGluwa is a South African politician serving as a Member of the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature since 2012. A member of the Democratic Alliance (DA), he has been its provincial leader in the Northern Cape since 2020. He was the DA's provincial chairperson from 2012 to 2020. He is also the party's chief whip in the legislature. McGluwa was the provincial head of the previous Independent Democrats (ID). McGluwa's brother, Joe McGluwa, serves as a Member of Parliament for the DA and was also the party's provincial leader in the North West.
