Fassifern Homestead
Fassifern Homestead is a heritage-listed homestead at 1008B Boonah-Fassifern Road, Kalbar, Scenic Rim Region, Queensland, Australia. It was built circa 1880. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 13 November 2008. History Fassifern Homestead is a single-storeyed timber residence erected to replace an earlier homestead on the same site. The Fassifern run, first taken up by John Cameron in 1841-1842, was one of the earliest licensed runs in the Moreton pastoral district, which was proclaimed on 10 May 1842. In 1857 Fassifern became part of the Wienholt family's complex and ultimately extensive Queensland pastoral empire and in 1869 was amalgamated with the adjacent runs of Moogerah and Tarome as the consolidated Fassifern run. Although from the 1870s used principally to fatten cattle from the Wiehnolt family's western Queensland properties, Fassifern was renowned also for its Clydesdale horse stud. Kalbar (formerly Engelsburg / Engelsberg) is a rural town and locality in the Scenic Rim Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , the locality of Kalbar had a population of 1,093 people. Geography Kalbar is in the Scenic Rim in South East Queensland, 70 km south-west of Central Brisbane. It is located near the Cunningham Highway and directly north of Mount French in the Fassifern Valley. History In 1877, were resumed from the Fassifern pastoral run and offered for selection on 19 April 1877. By 1890 a small town had developed. The town was once known as Fassifern Scrub and then Engelsburg after an early settler, storekeeper August Engels. The Shire of Boonah was a Local government in Australia, local government area in South East Queensland, South East Queensland, Australia, about southwest of Brisbane. The shire covered an area of , and existed from 1880 until its merger with parts of the Shire of Beaudesert and City of Ipswich to form the Scenic Rim Region on 15 March 2008. Digby Denham
Digby Frank Denham (25 January 1859 – 10 May 1944) was a politician and businessman in Queensland, Australia. He was a Premier of Queensland and Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. He was the first of only two Queensland Premiers to lose their own seat at a general election. Early life Denham was born in Langport, Somerset, England on 25 January 1859 to William Denham, a baker, and his wife Edna Grace, née Cooke. He studied at Langport Grammar School before being indentured to a drapery firm in July 1873. In 1881 Denham migrated to South Australia where he formed a business partnership in Mallala with a commercial traveller, George Cable Knight. He married Knight's sister Alice Maud at North Adelaide on 16 April 1884: they were to have two daughters and a son. Denham moved to Sydney in 1885 to form a partnership in John Melliday & Co. Tarampa is a rural Suburbs and localities (Australia), locality in the Somerset Region, Queensland, Australia. History The locality presumably takes its name from its parish, which in turn was named after the Tarampa pastoral run named in 1847 by pastoralist Charles Cameron. The name is from the Yaggera language, Yuggera language, meaning ''wild lime tree.'' In 1877, were resumed from the Tarampa pastoral run and offered for selection on 19 April 1877. Tarampa Provisional School opened on 1 April 1880. On 1 July 1886 it became Tarampa State School. Degilbo is a rural town and locality in the North Burnett Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , the locality of Degilbo had a population of 174 people. History The name ''Degilbo'' was the name of a pastoral run owned by William Henry Walsh (a Member of the Queensland Legislative Council) in 1847. It is believed to be an Aboriginal word ''dackeel bo'' meaning ''sharp or upright stones''. A very popular story is that ''Degilbo'' is actually the word ''obliged'' spelt backwards, attributed to a railway surveyor, who had to assign names to many railway stations, had run out of ideas but as he was ''obliged'' to come up with a name, he wrote that word down backwards. Bank Of Australasia
The Bank of Australasia was an Australian bank in operation from 1835 to 1951. Headquartered in London, the bank was incorporated by Royal Charter in March 1834. It had initially been planned to additionally include first South Africa and then Ceylon in the bank's operations; however, both these moves were blocked by the Lords of the Treasury. Its first branch opened in Sydney on 14 December 1835, followed by branches in Hobart and Launceston on 1 January 1836, in the latter city by taking over the former Cornwall Bank. A Melbourne branch opened on 28 August 1838 and an Adelaide branch on 14 January 1839. It opened a Perth branch in May 1841 when it absorbed the original Bank of Western Australia; however, the branch was closed in 1844 and the bank would not reopen in that city until 1894.
