A farrier is a specialist in equine hoof care, including the trimming and balancing of horses' hooves and the placing of shoes on their hooves, if necessary. A farrier combines some blacksmith's skills (fabricating, adapting, and adjusting metal shoes) with some veterinarian's skills (knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the lower limb) to care for horses' feet. History While the practice of putting protective hoof coverings on horses dates back to the first century, evidence suggests that the practice of nailing iron shoes into a horse’s hoof is a much later invention. One of the first archaeological discoveries of an iron horseshoe was found in the tomb of Merovingian king Childeric I, who reigned from 458-481/82. David Farrier
David Farrier (born 25 December 1982) is a New Zealand journalist and actor. He has worked in news and documentary, including features on New Zealand television and co-directing the internationally distributed documentary film ''Tickled'' (2016). In 2018, he created the Netflix documentary series '' Dark Tourist'', in which he visits obscure, peculiar, or dangerous tourist spots. Frederick T. Farrier (born May 9, 1972) is an American football coach and former player. He is running backs coach and recruiting coordinator at Alabama A&M University. Farrier served as the head football coach at Morgan State University from 2016 to 2017, compiling a record of 4–18. Robert Farrier
Robert Farrier (1796–1879) was an English artist best known for his paintings. Early life Farrier was born in 1796 in Chelsea, London, and lived in that area throughout his life. He was first placed for instruction under an engraver, but subsequently began to earn a living by painting portraits in miniature, and became a student at the Royal Academy. Career Farrier first exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1818, sending some miniature portraits, and in 1819 exhibited the first of a series of pictures in a slightly humorous vein, depicting domestic subjects, and especially scenes from schoolboy life. These were popular, and a number of them were engraved. The first which attracted notice was ''The Schoolboy—"He whistled loud to keep his courage up" (Blair's Grave)—'' exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1824, and engraved by J. Romney. Operation Farrier was a raid by British Commandos during the Second World War on the Yugoslavian island of Mljet. The raid by the Long Range Desert Group, No. 2 Commando and No. 43 (Royal Marine) Commando, all under the command of the 2nd Special Service Brigade, started on 22 May 1944. It came about because a previously planned raid "Operation Foothound" on the Ugljan and Pasman islands had to be abandoned. There were already some small partisan units and an American Office of Strategic Services agent on Mljet who supplied intelligence on the strength and locations of German forces.
