Farrar is a surname, an occupational surname for a blacksmith or ironworker derived from the Latin ''ferrarius'', Middle English Ferror or Anglo-Norman ferrur. Alternate spellings are Farrer, Ferrar and Farrow. Origins There are records of an Osbert le ferrur and Peter le ferrour previous to the Poll Tax of 1377, but in those cases ferrur is not a name, it is an occupation i.e. Thomas the horseshoer. Cape Farrar
Cape Farrar (french: Cap d'Farrar) is a cape located along the Boothia Peninsula of the Kitikmeot Region near Taloyoak in the Canadian province of Nunavut, approximately 2,900 km northwest of Ottawa. Geography James Ross Strait and the St. Roch Basin separate the cape and Boothia Peninsula from King William Island to the west. The community of Taloyoak lies to the northeast of the cape. Name Cape Farrar is named after Sergeant Frederick Sleigh Farrar, RCMP. Sgt. F.S. Farrar was born at 37 Gresford Avenue, Liverpool, England in 1901, and was a Royal Naval cadet when he emigrated to Canada in 1929 and joined the RCMP in that same year. Marvin, Welch & Farrar ( MWF) were a 1970s British and Australian popular music group formed by Hank Marvin and Bruce Welch, both members of The Shadows – as a change of direction manoeuvre during 1970 to 1973 – and John Farrar (ex- The Strangers). Farrar's Island
Farrar's Island is a peninsula on the west side of the James River in Chesterfield County, Virginia. It is the site of the Dutch Gap Conservation Area and Boat Landing and the Henricus Historical Park. Originally, Farrar's Island was formed by a meander loop in the James River and lay on the east side of the James River. At its smallest point, the neck of the peninsula was less than 400 feet wide. At that time, Farrar's Island was slightly less than 700 acres and lay about south of the James River fall line at Richmond, Virginia. Due to its strategic location on the river, the neck of the peninsula became the site of the earliest English settlements in Virginia, Henricus, was founded by Sir Thomas Dale in 1611.
