Bruce Farr
Bruce Kenneth Farr (born 1949 in Auckland) is a New Zealand designer of racing and cruising yachts. Farrdesigned boats have won, challenged for, or placed highly in the Whitbread Round the World Race, America's Cup, and Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race, among others. Farr's services to yacht design were recognised in the 1990 Queen's Birthday Honours, when he was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire. He currently lives near Annapolis, Maryland, USA. Early boats Farr began building boats at the age of 13 near Warkworth north of Auckland. His first boats were plywood hard chine Moth class designs. He later designed and built variants of Cherubs and especially Flying 18s. His early designs were built in plywood with a focus on light weight and good planing shapes. Jamie Farr (born Jameel Joseph Farah; July 1, 1934) is an American comedian and actor. He is best known for playing the cross-dressing Corporal turned Sergeant Maxwell Q. Klinger in the CBS television sitcom ''M*A*S*H''. He was inducted to the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1985. Early life Farr was born in Toledo, Ohio, to Lebanese-American parents Jamelia M. (née Abodeely), a seamstress, and Samuel N. Farah, a grocer. He and his family attended Saint George Antiochian Orthodox Church in Toledo. Farr's first acting success occurred at age 11, when he won two dollars in a local acting contest. After Woodward High School, where he was one of the standouts among his class, Farr attended the Pasadena Playhouse, where a Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer talent scout discovered him, offering him a screen test for ''Blackboard Jungle''. Melvin Farr (November 3, 1944 – August 3, 2015) was an American professional football player and businessman. A native of Beaumont, Texas, Farr played college football as a halfback on the 1965 and 1966 UCLA Bruins football teams that were ranked No. 4 and No. 5 respectively in the final AP Polls. He was selected as a consensus first-team All-American in 1966, gained over 1,000 yards from scrimmage in both 1965 and 1966, and was inducted into the UCLA Athletics Hall of Fame in 1988. Farr was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the first round, seventh overall pick, of the 1967 NFL Draft and played seven years as a running back for the Lions. He led the Lions in both rushing and receiving in 1967, totaling 1,177 yards from scrimmage as a rookie, and was selected as the NFL Rookie of the Year. Lorin Farr (July 27, 1820 – January 12, 1909) was a Mormon pioneer and the first mayor of Ogden, Utah. Farr was born in Waterford, Vermont. He was a son oWinslow Farrand the brother oWinslow Farr, Jr. who later became the first Latter Day Saint bishop of Colonia Dublán, Mexico. When he was eleven, Lorin Farr joined the LDS church after being introduced to it by Orson Pratt and Lyman E. Johnson. Farr's baptism was performed by Johnson. The Farr family moved to Kirtland, Ohio in 1837 and then to Missouri in 1838, and to Nauvoo, Illinois after that. In 1843 and 1844, Farr served as a missionary in many states of the United States. During his sojourn at Nauvoo, his one-story red brick home was situated on Durphy Street just north of his father's home and south of the Wilford Woodruff residence. Other neighbors living nearby included Stillman Pond and Heber C. Kimball. Lorin went west with the body of the Latter Day Saints, arriving in the Salt Lake Valley in September 1847. ... Julia Warren Farr née Ord (14 August 1824 – 21 April 1914) was an English-born South Australian philanthropist. History Julia was a daughter of Major Robert Hutchinson Ord (1789–1828), whose family were associated with Greensted Hall, Essex, and his wife Elizabeth Ord (née Blagrave). She married (Anglican) Rev. George Henry Farr, Vicar of St. Wenn's Church in Cornwall, in 1846 after a four-year engagement, the delay being occasioned by her parents' disapproval, the Ords being Plymouth Brethren and in much wealthier circumstances. In 1854 he was offered the position of headmaster of St Peter's College, Adelaide, which he promptly accepted, hoping the drier climate of South Australia would improve her delicate health. John Farr (British Politician)
Sir John Arnold Farr (25 September 1922 – 25 October 1997) was a Conservative Party politician in the United Kingdom. Born in Nottingham, Farr was educated at Harrow School and served with the Royal Navy during World War II. He became a farmer, Lloyd's member and director of a brewery company. Farr contested Ilkeston in 1955. He was Member of Parliament (MP) for Harborough from 1959 until his retirement at the 1992 general election. In 1967 Farr referred to homosexuality as a "wrongful practice" and a "disease" and called on parliament to enact a provision to prevent its "spread" in prisons. In 1974, a large amount of Farr's territory was hived off to create the new constituency of Blaby, which was won by future Chancellor of the Exchequer Nigel Lawson. In 1960, he married Susan Milburn, daughter of Sir Leonard Milburn: the couple had two sons. Lady Farr died in 2011.
