The Farmers' and Settlers' Association of New South Wales was an umbrella organisation of farmers' and selectors' associations in New South Wales, founded in 1893. History The Association was formed in 1893 as the outcome of a conference held in Cootamundra, which adopted the Name and Constitution as published in the ''Cootamundra Herald''. :It was, at least in part, a reaction to the successes achieved by the Pastoralists' Union, who had just come from a crushing defeat of the Shearers' Union. They had succeeded in lobbying for their interests as large landholders, often against the farmers' interests. The foundation president was G. F. Plunkett (c. 1847–1902) and the secretary M. M. Ryan, (c. 1859 – 21 August 1919), who acted as delegates to the land conference held at Cootamundra, their appointments ratified, along with the election of W. Walsh as treasurer. Cootamundra
Cootamundra, nicknamed Coota, is a town in the South West Slopes region of New South Wales, Australia and within the Riverina. It is within the Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council. At the 2016 Census, Cootamundra had a population of 6,782. It is located on the Olympic Highway at the point where it crosses the Muttama Creek, between Junee and Cowra. Its railway station is on the Main Southern line, part of the Melbourne-to-Sydney line. Cootamundra is the birthplace of Sir Donald Bradman , an Australian cricketer universally regarded as the greatest batsman of all time. ''The Sydney Mail'' was an Australian magazine published weekly in Sydney. It was the weekly edition of ''The Sydney Morning Herald'' newspaper and ran from 1860 to 1938. History ''The Sydney Mail'' was first published on 17 July 1860 by John Fairfax and Sons. In 1871 the magazine was renamed for the first time, and it was published as ''The Sydney Mail and New South Wales Advertiser'' from 1871 to 1912. In 1912 it reverted to its original name, ''The Sydney Mail'', and was published under this masthead until 28 December 1938 when the magazine ceased publication. It was published on a weekly basis and became known for its illustrations. The ''Wellington Times'' is a newspaper published in Wellington, New South Wales, Australia since 1889. The ''Wellington Times'' has also been published as ''The Wellington Times and Australian Industrial Liberator''. History ''The Wellington Times and Australian Industrial Liberator'' was first published on 23 May 1889 by Michael Conlan O'Halloran to support the labour movement. History ''The Land'' first appeared in 1911 as a two penny broadsheet. Walter Corrie Cambridge (1 May 1875 – 14 April 1954) was an Australian politician. He was born in Sydney to engineer Henry Cambridge. He grew up in Hay, but later returned to Sydney and was an apprentice printer. Around 1908, he married Clarinda Sale, with whom he had two daughters. From 1917, he was an organiser with the Farmers' and Settlers' Association of New South Wales, becoming assistant secretary in 1919 and general secretary from 1925 to 1945; he was also active in the formation of the Progressive Party.
