Far North Coast Baseball Association
The Far North Coast Baseball Association (FNCBA) is the organising body for baseball on the Far North Coast of New South Wales. History In 1937, Laurie Thew, an aspiring right-handed pitcher from Sydney moved to Lismore and began efforts to establish baseball in the city. On 11 May 1937 a public notice was published in The Northern Star inviting interest in the formation of a 'Baseball Club', with the initial meeting taking place on Thursday 13 May 1937. Soon there were enough players for two teams and within weeks challenges were issued and representative games against Queensland based teams were being held. The first representative baseball game ever held in Lismore took place on Saturday 31 July 1937, Queensland vs Lismore, with the visitors winning 7-1 on the back of some brilliant pitching. Baseball is a bat-and-ball sport played between two teams of nine players each, taking turns batting and fielding. The game occurs over the course of several plays, with each play generally beginning when a player on the fielding team, called the pitcher, throws a ball that a player on the batting team, called the batter, tries to hit with a bat. The objective of the offensive team (batting team) is to hit the ball into the field of play, away from the other team's players, allowing its players to run the bases, having them advance counter-clockwise around four bases to score what are called " runs". New South Wales Major League
The NSW State Baseball League (previously known as the New South Wales Major League) is the highest amateur level of play for the sport of baseball in New South Wales. The league is currently composed of 9 baseball clubs predominantly from Sydney, with one club from the Central Coast. The current 1st Grade Champions are the Penrith Panthers, and the current Club Champions are the Baulkham Hills Kookaburras. Structure The NSW State Baseball League is composed of four separate divisions of play. The Sunshine Coast Daily is an online newspaper specifically serving the Sunshine Coast region of Queensland, Australia. It is owned by News Corp Australia. It was originally founded as a print newspaper, however since 2020 the publication is only available in digital forms. In 2008, the circulation of the ''Sunshine Coast Daily'' was 21,604 Monday to Friday and 34,716 on Saturday. In 2015, those figures are down to 12,200 Monday to Friday and just under 18,000 on Saturday. There were also a number of community publications attached to the newspaper, the ''Caloundra Weekly'', ''Maroochy Weekly'', ''Nambour Weekly'', and ''Buderim Chronicle''. Matthew Gahan (born 26 November 1975) in Lismore, New South Wales is an Australian baseball player who is currently a free agent and plays for the Australian national team. Career Matty was signed in 2000 by the New York Mets organisation and played with the Brooklyn Cyclones and Capital City Bombers in 2001, before being promoted to Advanced A with the St. Lucie Mets in 2002. Australia Women's National Baseball Team
The Australian women's national baseball team, nicknamed the Emeralds, represents Australia in international women's baseball tournaments and competitions. The team is controlled by the Australian Baseball Federation, which is represented in the Baseball Confederation of Oceania (BCO).
