Fantasy-class Cruise Ship
The ''Fantasy'' class is a cruise ship class operated by Carnival Cruise Lines. The first vessel of the class, ''Carnival Fantasy'', entered service in 1990. All eight vessels of the class were constructed by Kvaerner Masa-Yards, in Helsinki, Finland, at the Hietalahti shipyard. Design This class utilizes a "modern ocean/cruise liner" design, with most of its cabins situated within the hull and only a handful of suites on the superstructure, similar to the s built in the late 1980s. The ''Fantasy'' class is the only class currently in service for Carnival initially built with only a few balcony cabins. ''Carnival Elation'' and ''Carnival Paradise'' differ from the other ships of the class in that they are equipped with Azipod azimuth thruster An azimuth thruster is a configuration of marine propellers placed in pods that can be rotated to any horizontal angle (azimuth), making a rudder unnecessary. These give ships better maneuverability than a fixed propeller and rudder sy ...

Carnival Fantasy
''Carnival Fantasy'' (formerly ''Fantasy'') was a cruise ship operated by Carnival Cruise Line. She was the first ship of her namesake class, which was the largest by number of ships, before the scrapping of the Fantasy, Inspiration, Imagination, and the selling of the Fascination in 2020. Built by Kværner Masa-Yards at its Helsinki New Shipyard in Helsinki, Finland, she was floated out on December 9, 1988, completed on January 27, 1990 and formally named on March 1, 1990, as ''Fantasy'' by Tellervo Koivisto, wife of the then President of Finland, Mauno Koivisto. During 2007, in common with all of her ''Fantasy''-class sisters, she had the prefix "''Carnival''" added to her name. In July 2020, Carnival Corporation & plc confirmed that it had sold ''Carnival Fantasy'' for scrap. Service history ''Fantasy'' entered service in 1990 and was by 2020 the oldest ship in the fleet. Until 1993 she cruised from the Port of Miami when she relocated to Port Canaveral. In the Fall of 20 ...

Azimuth Thruster
An azimuth thruster is a configuration of marine propellers placed in pods that can be rotated to any horizontal angle (azimuth), making a rudder unnecessary. These give ships better maneuverability than a fixed propeller and rudder system. Types of azimuth thrusters There are two major variants, based on the location of the motor: # Mechanical transmission, which connects a motor inside the ship to the outboard unit by gearing. The motor may be diesel or diesel-electric. Depending on the shaft arrangement, mechanical azimuth thrusters are divided into L-drive and Z-drive. An L-drive thruster has a vertical input shaft and a horizontal output shaft with one right-angle gear. A Z-drive thruster has a horizontal input shaft, a vertical shaft in the rotating column and a horizontal output shaft, with two right-angle gears. # Electrical transmission, more commonly called pods, where an electric motor is fitted in the pod itself, connected directly to the propeller without ge ...

Cruise Ship Classes
This is a list of cruise ships, both those in service and those that have ceased to operate. Ocean liners are included on this list only if they also functioned as cruise ships. (See: list of ocean liners.) As some cruise ships have operated under multiple names, all names will be listed in the Status section, along with the history of the vessel, under the vessel's ''current or most recent name''. If a vessel is not currently operating as a cruise ship, only the most recent operation will be listed here. Likewise, if a vessel fulfilled another role before becoming a cruise ship, the first entry for the vessel will occur when the vessel began its career as a cruise ship. Carnival Inspiration 01
Carnival is a Catholic Christian festive season that occurs before the liturgical season of Lent.
