Fanny (1932 Film)
''Fanny'' is a 1932 French romantic drama film directed by Marc Allégret and starring Orane Demazis, Raimu and Alida Rouffe. It is based on the 1931 play by Marcel Pagnol. It is the second part of the ''Marseillaise'' film trilogy that begins with '' Marius'' (1931) and concludes with '' César'' (1936). Like ''Marius'', the film was a box office success in France and is still considered to be a classic of French cinema. It was shot at the Billancourt Studios in Paris and on location in Marseille. The film's sets were designed by the art director Gabriel Scognamillo. Plot The story takes place in Marseille. Marius, the son of barkeeper César, had a romance with Fanny, a neighbourhood girl and daughter of the fish salesman in the harbor. Marc Allégret (22 December 1900 – 3 November 1973) was a French screenwriter, photographer and film director. Billancourt Studios was a film studio in Paris which operated between 1922 and 1992. Located in Boulogne-Billancourt, it was one of the leading French studios. It was founded in the silent era by Henri Diamant-Berger. Milly Mathis (September 8, 1901 – March 30, 1965) was a French actress who appeared in more than 100 films during her career. Gabriel Scognamillo
Gabriel Scognamillo (27 October 1906 – 31 May 1974) was an Italian art director. One of the first films he worked on was Jean Renoir's provocative 1931 film ''La Chienne''. Two years later he had moved to Hollywood where one of his first films there was MGM's production of ''The Merry Widow'' (1934) with Maurice Chevalier and Jeanette MacDonald. Scognamillo also worked on several in the Andy Hardy, ''Maisie'' and Dr. Kildare series of films. Some of his efforts in the 1950s include ''The Great Caruso'' (1951), ''The Story of Three Loves'' (1953), for which he received an Academy Award nomination, and the children's science fiction film ''Tobor the Great'' (1954).
