Fan Wenzhao
Robert Fan Wenzhao (1893-1979) was an important figure among first-generation twentieth century Chinese architects, specifically for Shanghai’s architectural modernist movement in the 1930s. Biography Born in Shanghai, Fan got a degree in engineering from St John's University in 1917. After working at St John's as engineering professor for two years, Fan pursued a Bachelor's degree in architecture from the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 1922. There, he studied under Paul Philippe Cret, who had been trained in the Beaux-Arts style. Fan travelled extensively in Europe and America, acquiring a taste for modern, Western architectural styles, such as Art Deco. Upon his return to Shanghai in 1922, Fan joined the Sino-American engineering venture Lam, Glines & Company (允元公司) of Von-Fong Lam (1891–1987). Poy Gum Lee (; 1900–1968) was a Chinese-American architect. Lee is known for his Art Deco buildings with Chinese architectural influence or "Chinese Deco" in Shanghai as well as in Chinatown, Manhattan, New York City. Early life and education On January 14, 1900, Lee was born at 13 Mott Street in Chinatown, Manhattan, New York City. Lee's parents were Lee Yick Dep and Ng Lan Yin (also known as Ng She); Lee was the eldest child and he had 14 siblings. He grew up at 32 Mott Street above the family store in the Chinatown neighborhood in New York City. In 1920, Lee earned a degree in Architecture from Pratt Institute. Lee took architecture extension classes at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1921 and later at Columbia University in 1922. Liu Jipiao
Liu Jipiao (), (1900–1992) was a Chinese architect associated with the development of Art Deco architecture in China and an oil painter of Realism. Liu's approach to architecture was to create a modern design with a distinctive Chinese aesthetic. Liu is remembered as the first Chinese Art Deco architect. Early life and education On June 4, 1900, Liu was born in Meizhou, Guangdong, China. Liu's family had wealth from owning a silk dying factory. At a young age Liu took an interest in porcelain as well as Chinese and Western painting. Chung Chi College
The Chung Chi College is one of the constituent colleges of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), and one of the three original colleges that joined to form the CUHK in 1963.
