Family Pride (TV Series)
''Family Pride'' was a short- lived British soap opera produced by Central Television, which ran for two series from 1991–92. It was written by Mahmood Jamal and Barry Simmer and centred on the lives of three Asian families living in Birmingham. It was produced by Zia Mohyeddin, directed by Henry Foster and Faris Kermani, and first appeared on 30 June 1991. The series was shown in the Midlands region on ITV and nationally on Channel 4. Paul Henry (actor)
Paul Henry (born 1947) is an English actor, best known for his role as Benny Hawkins in the soap opera ''Crossroads''. Career Born in Aston, Birmingham, Henry attended the city's Alderlea Boys School in Shard End with Jeff Lynne. Henry trained at the Birmingham School of Speech and Drama, which was followed by eight years at the Birmingham Rep. Between 1975 and 1988, he played his best-known role of Benny Hawkins, a handyman in ''Crossroads''. In 1977, Henry recorded "Benny's Theme" with the Mayson Glen Orchestra for Pye Records. It peaked at no. 39 in the UK Singles Chart in January 1978. He was in character as Benny in the song, but spoke rather than sang. Henry made a guest appearance on the Central Television game show ''Bullseye'', presented by Jim Bowen, on 11 February, 1985. He scored 215 and raised £215 for charity. ITV (TV Network)
ITV is a British free-to-air public broadcast television network. It was launched in 1955 as Independent Television to provide competition to BBC Television (established in 1936). ITV is the oldest commercial network in the UK. Since the passing of the Broadcasting Act 1990, it has been legally known as Channel 3 to distinguish it from the other analogue channels at the time, BBC1, BBC2 and Channel 4. ITV was for four decades a network of separate companies which provided regional television services and also shared programmes between each other to be shown on the entire network. Rula Lenska (born Róża Maria Leopoldyna Łubieńska, 30 September 1947) is a British actress. She mainly appears in British stage and television productions and is known in the United States for a series of television advertisements in the 1970s and 1980s. She portrayed Claudia Colby in the ITV soap opera ''Coronation Street''. Lenska was married to the actors Brian Deacon (1977–1987) and Dennis Waterman (1987–1998). Faris Kermani is an English film director of Pakistani descent. A graduate from the London Film School, his work consists primarily of documentaries but also includes drama series, and fiction films. Many of his programmes focus on South Asian politics and the Muslim world. He has produced programmes for the BBC and Channel 4 as well as Pakistani channels.
