False Pride
''False Pride'' is a 1925 American silent drama film directed by Hugh Dierker and starring Owen Moore, Faire Binney, Ruth Stonehouse, and J. Barney Sherry. Plot As described in a film magazine review, a young man who prefers legal practice to a life of ease is engaged by a wealthy woman to investigate the past of her niece, whom she wishes to adopt. He falls in love with the girl as soon as he sees her, though he has no sympathy for many of her ideas and for her manner of living. After a series of incidents that almost result in his going to prison, the young attorney overcomes the young woman’s false notions about success. Then a wedding is arranged. Hugh Dierker
Hugh E. Dierker (1890 – 1975) was an American film director and producer. Biography Dierker worked at Pathé. By 1920 he had established his own production company, Hugh Dierker Productions. Junior Coghlan wrote about him in his autobiography. A photograph of him and Bebe Daniels appeared in the ''Los Angeles Herald'' April 14, 1922 in connection with a showing of his production '' When Dawn Came''. His wife authored the story and is given a dedication on the associated songbook. In 1912 he contracted for a garage building in Los Angeles. Pauline Armitage (actress)
Pauline Armitage is a former politician in Northern Ireland, who was a Member of the Northern Ireland Assembly (MLA) for East Londonderry from 1998 to 2003. Based in Coleraine, Armitage joined the Young Unionists in 1969. She served in the Ulster Defence Regiment before being elected to Coleraine Borough Council for the Ulster Unionist Party (UUP) in 1985. She served as the Mayor of Coleraine from 1995 to 1997. In 1996 she was an unsuccessful candidate in the Northern Ireland Forum election in East Londonderry. In 1998, Armitage was elected to the Northern Ireland Assembly, representing East Londonderry. In this session of the Assembly, she occasionally voted against the party line, supporting a Democratic Unionist Party motion for Sinn Féin MLAs to be excluded from the Executive. A lost film is a feature or short film that no longer exists in any studio archive, private collection, public archive or the U.S. Library of Congress. Conditions During most of the 20th century, U.S. copyright law required at least one copy of every American film to be deposited at the Library of Congress at the time of copyright registration, but the Librarian of Congress was not required to retain those copies: "Under the provisions of the act of March 4, 1909, authority is granted for the return to the claimant of copyright of such copyright deposits as are not required by the Library." Bradley Barker
Bradley Barker (January 18, 1883 – September 29, 1951) was an American actor and film director of the silent era. He also created sound effects for film and radio. Born in Long Island, New York, Barker was a vaudeville performer and an actor in stock theater. He appeared in 70 films between 1915 and 1928. He also directed seven films between 1929 and 1930. After he worked as an actor, Barker began creating sound effects for radio programs and films. He provided the sound of the MGM lion on screen before the studio began using a recording of a real lion and provided sounds of a variety of animals on radio. Radio programs on which he worked included ''Let's Pretend'' and ''Little Orphan Annie''. On September 29, 1951, Barker died at his home in New York City at age 68. Bernarr Macfadden (born Bernard Adolphus McFadden, August 16, 1868 – October 12, 1955) was an American proponent of physical culture, a combination of bodybuilding with nutritional and health theories. He founded the long-running magazine publishing company Macfadden Publications. Biography Early life Born in Mill Spring, Missouri, Macfadden changed his first and last names to give them a greater appearance of strength. He thought "Bernarr" sounded like the roar of a lion, and that "Macfadden" was a more masculine spelling of his last name. As a young child, Macfadden was weak and sickly. After being orphaned by the time he was 11, he was placed with a farmer and began working on the farm. The hard work and wholesome food on the farm turned him into a strong and fit boy. When he was 13, however, he moved to St. Louis, Missouri and took a desk job. Quickly his health reverted again and by 16 he described himself as a "physical wreck".
