Dessa
Margret Wander (born May 23, 1981), better known by her stage name Dessa, is an American rapper, singer, writer, and former record executive. She is a member of the indie hip hop collective Doomtree. Early life Dessa was born to Robert Wander Jr. and Sylvia Burgos Toftness, and has a younger brother, Max. Her father is white and her mother Puerto Rican. Dessa went to Southwest High School in Minneapolis, Minnesota, graduating from the IB Diploma Programme in 1999. She attended the University of Minnesota, where she earned a B.A. in philosophy. Before becoming an artist full-time, she waited tables and worked as a technical writer for a medical manufacturer. Andrew Sims (born October 19, 1982), better known mononymously as Sims, is an American rapper from Minneapolis. He has been a member of Doomtree and Shredders. Early life Sims was born Andrew Sims on October 19, 1982 in Minnesota. He grew up in Hopkins, a suburb of Minneapolis. His parents were former musicians. He first began creating music at an early age when his father bought him a Casio SK-1 keyboard. At a young age, he began writing lyrics, not necessarily rap. By the time he was 14, Sims was freestyle rapping and was also in various non hip hop bands as well. He attended Hopkins High School in Minnetonka, Minnesota, where he met P.O.S and Cecil Otter, (and later other Doomtree members) who would sell beats to Sims. Kyle Smith (born July 16, 1980), better known by his stage name Cecil Otter, is a rapper and producer based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is a founding member of the indie hip hop collective Doomtree. History '' Cecil Otter's False Hopes'' was released on Doomtree in 2005. He released his first solo album, '' Rebel Yellow'', on Doomtree in 2008. It was re-released on Strange Famous Records in 2009. In 2011, Cecil Otter released ''13 Chambers'', a mashup album blending Wu-Tang Clan and Fugazi, with Swiss Andy as Wugazi. In 2012, he stated that he is currently working on his second solo album, ''Porcelain Revolver''. Jessy Greene
Jessy Greene is a violinist, cellist and vocalist from St. Paul, Minnesota. She was a former member of Geraldine Fibbers and The Jayhawks. Career A native of Sheffield in western Massachusetts, Jessy started playing the violin at the age of four. During high school she took a break from the instrument to play guitar in a rock band before deciding to play violin in more contemporary styles. Later, she got a degree from the UCLA in ethnomusicology, and joined the Peter Himmelman "Skin" tour, playing violin and singing backup. Upon returning to Los Angeles, Jessy joined the Geraldine Fibbers, with whom she recorded two albums. In 1997 she moved to Minneapolis, joining The Jayhawks. In Minnesota, Greene played with local projects and recorded two solo albums.
